Jul 25, 2009 - Back to Summerside

We turn back for Summertown and go and look at the shoreline with its little shacks selling goods by the sea. We find a laundrette and do some washing. On returning to WalMart we do some shopping. I purchase a pocket inverter so that we can charge up the computer from the RV when we are not plugged in, which also contains a transmitter so that we can plug the computer or the walkman into it so that we can listen to our music on the RV’s radio. We find Flynn a Ben 10 DVD (13 episodes series 3) for $6 (£3). He is happy now for the longer...

Jul 25, 2009 - Summerside. PEI

We are here in 30 kt winds, but no longer the largest boat in the marina - 2nd largest - LOL. Neat town and lots to see and do, but the rain is slowing us down. Ate at a restaurant famous for mussels. This is the mussel capital of the world, so to speak, and Leslie has a plate full and John sampled a couple and said they were the best he ever had. Good time to catch up on washing clothes, and John went shopping for a radar deflector which was local made for fishing boats. This way, we will be a larger blip on other boats radar. Toured...

Jul 24, 2009 - What price?

Here we find in town there is a WalMart. Here we find a “crossbows & catapaults” game. It is marked up as $55 but there are reduced stickers around that hint that it might be $19. On checking the price at the till we find it is $5 and the girl on the counter asks, "do we still want it?" go figure. Everytime we have bought something from WalMart there has been a price difference somewhere. What with prices not showing taxes, prices out of date, you might as well just make it up. We then popped over to Pizza Delight for tea. Here one of the...

Jul 19, 2009 - P.E.I. July-13-19, 2009

On Monday we went into Moncton and had haircuts and did some shopping. We were waiting around to watch the tidal bore from the Bay of Fundy. At 2:15 we went to downtown Moncton at the visitors information bureau and found a seat in the amphitheatre facing the river. A very personable young lady from the Moncton Museum gave an interesting talk on the history of the river and the area. At 2:55 the tide was suppose to come in and we waited, and waited and finally we noticed this little ripple on the water…this was the tidal bore. Apparently...

Jul 14, 2009 - East Coastal Drive, PEI

Well today we headed off to do the East Coastal Drive. We thought we would head up to Georgetown first because they had in the tourist book that there was a heritage walking tour with about 60 historic homes we could see. Well we headed up and I have to say the scenery was mostly of agricultural nature not as pretty as yesterday's scenery. Well we got to Georgetown and I have to say we were so disappointed the walking tour they walked about was around a five block area and yes there were a lot of homes but you were only to look on the...

Jul 13, 2009 - North Cape, PEI

Today we got up to thunder, rain and lightening (yes Trish lightening) so we took it easy and around 10:00 it started to clear up. We decided to drive up to North Cape. We said goodbye to our neighbors John & Mary as they were leaving for Pictou. Last night we enjoyed another nice evening with them chatting about the places they have travelled to. We are hoping to run into them again in either Pictou or Baddeck. We headed up to The Prince Edward Island Potato Museum which is located in the community of O'Leary. It is surrounded by fertile...

Jul 12, 2009 - Green Gables, Cavendish PEI

We have had two fantastic days of sunshine and we have been getting up early just to watch the sunrise. PEI is just beautiful. PEI seems to be divided into five sections North Cape Coastal Drive, Green Gables Shore, Red Sands Shore, Charlottetown and Points East Coastal Drive. Over the time period we are here we're going to try and see as much of the five sections that we can. We drove the Green Gables shore on Friday and stopped at Green Gables which is the site that they pay tribute to Lucy Maud Montgomery who wrote Green Gables. We...

Jul 9, 2009 - Hurray!!! Sunshine In PEI

We woke up to the greatest day today it was sunny and warm absolutely beautiful. We packed up and left St. Martins around 8:00 am and arrived at our campground in PEI at noon so it was a real short drive and very easy to get where we were going. We drove over the Confederation Bridge which joins New Brunswick with PEI. It is the longest (8 miles) bridge in the world that crosses over ice-covered water. They say it endures as one of Canada's top engineering achievements in the 20th Century. The bridge took four years of construction along...

Jul 9, 2009 - Summerside, PEI

Yesterday was one of our first sunny days we've had in six weeks so we just walked the beach and enjoyed it. We had two couples pull in beside us both of them are from British Columbia and one couple is on a four month trip around the Maritimes and the other couple are here for one month. It was nice to meet people from our own province. We had a nice campfire but by 8:00 pm it was just too cold to sit out there even with the fire so we all went back to our own units. Brian and I tied up and got some things ready to leave in the morning. We...

Sep 13, 2008 - Nova Scotia and PEI

Hi Everyone. We' had another busy 10 days or so. Drove to Louisbourg to visit the fortress. Very well recreated. Spent the whole day there then stopped at a seafood buffet for dinner that featured fresh snow crab. Delicious! the next day we went to a show featuring NS music, dance and comedy. At intermission they served tea and oatcakes on the mezzanine. Very good. The next day we hooked up and went across the island to Cape Breton to do the Cabot Trail. We camped at Baddeck. Unhooked and went into town to the Alexander Graham Bell Museum....

Jul 23, 2008 - Funny little place called

I say “Good Morning” at the breakfast table to a couple from Ontario, just north of Toronto. Interesting guy, he bought a place here and plans to retire in PEI. The place is lovely, only a whopping great $64,000! I say goodbye to Zita, a real woman if you know what I mean. Was (still is) married to a man who has passed on. She is quick to point out that he was a veteran and still ‘feel’s’. She is 85 and is young at heart if you know what I mean. I know kids of 25 and are old! I look into her eyes and see a presence – she will live to be...
