Jun 22, 2019 - Red Point prov park

The wind and rain whipped all night long at the Cavendish park last night so we moved on up the east coastal drive. The rain stopped this morning but the winds increased. We stopped back by Doirons seafood market and bought scallops and haddock for supper. We stopped for lunch at Rick's fish and chips in St.Peters and had a wonderful curry seafood chowder and bill had a fried scallop sandwich. Both were excellent choices! We made it to the lighthouse at East Point and the woman said the winds were at 60 mph. We could hardly walk 25 yards to...

Aug 13, 2017 - Malpeque to Red Point

Today’s route across the top of the island to East Point took me through Green Gables country. Lucy Maud Montgomery lived on Prince Edward Island & wrote her most famous novel, "Anne of Green Gables" in 1908. She followed that up with 19 other novels, all except one set on Prince Edward Island which she describes in great detail in her books. Although Anne was a fictional character, the house & its surroundings weren’t & they are now part of a Parks Canada Heritage Place. L M Mongomery’s mother died when she was 21 months old so she was...

Aug 6, 2017 - hot times in Montague

Aug6 A rare rainy day on this holiday but we do our “dolly domestics” as Grandpa T calls them and spend a quiet day reading and blogging. Tomorrow we head to the north east coast to do our final section of PEI coastline. Aug7 A little hiccup this morning as we are loading the trailer onto the hitch we notice that the equalizer bar retaining pin is gone. This pin has been a little wonky but we really can’t use bars without it – oh, oh. So we spend an hour at least zipping around to a couple of places looking for a replacement or...

Aug 10, 2013 - PEI - Points East Coastal Drive

August 10-Moving to the other end of PEI – Points East Coastal Drive. Even though we are going from one side of the island to the other it only takes about 3 hours because PEI is only about 135 miles long. We are staying at Red Point Provincial Park and when we got there it was right on a cliff overlooking the ocean – WOW what a view! We got set up and headed further north to the northeastern most corner. There are just little dots of towns – mostly farming and fishing in this area, much like the other coast. Most of the people and the...

Aug 30, 2007 - Red Point Provincial Park and Basin Head Provincial Park

Today was interesting. First, it was so windy and wild that there was no way we could kayak in the Northumberland Strait. It looked like the ocean out there and overnight, it was blowing so strongly that Dixie was all freaked out by the noise. We took a walk this morning on the beach and then drove to East Point - the most easterly location on the island. We have now been to West Point, North Cape and East Point - only missed the most southerly point. The lighthouse at East Point looks just like the one at West point and North Cape but...
