Oct 8, 2006 - Loyalist Parkway and ferry ride

I'm pushing my luck; Mike agreed to do today's short trip via the scenic 'Loyalist Parkway', taking the ferry (very much like ours at home) over to Picton and around the shores of Lake Ontario. This was a pretty trip, beautiful trees and nice towns on the lake. The sun was shining! We did a short stretch on the 401 and arrived at the Darlington Provincial Park about 2:30. There was no one at the entrance gate, so we drove further into the park to the main office which was staffed by one fairly inept person who couldn't register us,...

Aug 5, 2006 - Prince Edward County

Well, time to move on from Niagara wine region to ...another wine region. This time it is Prince Edward County near Belleville. While the wine region is new, the county is a Loyalist settlement with numerous small towns and villages with well preserved historical buildings. As the first night threatened severe weather we enjoyed an evening at the Grove Cottage B&B with an excellent meal down the road at the Barley Pub. While there are many B&B's in the area, this is one we would definitely recommend. Spent the following two day's touring...
