Aug 11, 2012 - Still hanging out in Wasaga Beach

It was a little bit of a rain day most of the day, until the sun came out mid afternoon. We quickly put our bathing suits on, and jumped in the pool. That was short lived, but brother Don is filling the hot tub (for later) We jumped in the truck with Don, Trish, & Nicky and drove to the casino in Barrie for supper. After a great meal and some Sugarless Cheesecake, we took in some Horse Racing. Turkey should have placed some bets, cause every horse he picked either came in first or second. We could have walked out ahead of the game, but didn't.

Aug 10, 2012 - Wasaga Beach, Ontario

Well, it's another beautiful day in Wasaga Beach today.......NOT! We woke up to rain showers again, and with rain in the forecast for the next 3 or 4 days. Oh well. Don and Trish treated us to breakfast, and then Trish, Nicky, Turkey and I went to Nancy Island, where we brushed up on a little bit of history about the War of 1812. A ship called Nancy was sunk there, by the Americans, and an Island formed around and on top of her. A great BBQ supper, and a game of Super Tock took up most of the evening, with Trish's brother Theo and wife...

Aug 9, 2012 - Wasaga Beach, Ontario

We woke up this morning to dark rain clouds outside. Yuck! We didn't really want to spend the day in the middle of nowhere, Michigan, so we donned our heated jackets, leathers, clear rain glasses and our rain gear, and off into the North/East we went. Today was another long day, but the worst of it was the fact that it started raining about 250 Km North of Wasaga Beach. We persevered, slowed down, and made our way to my brother Donald's place in Wasaga Beach. We arrived safely, with no incidents, other than being totally soaked! 950 Km in...

May 19, 2011 - Coldwater, Ont

Today looked like rain, and we borrowed Don’s truck again to go and visit with Darryill and Marg Spates. It turned out to be a beautiful day! We checked out the Spates palace, and then went in to Coldwater for lunch. We had a great visit, wandering down memory lane, and catching up on all the news. Darryill and Marg look great! Retirement is definitely agreeing with them! After driving back to Wasaga, we visited with Don and Trish again, and then rode off to the marina where they keep their big boat at Petaguishene. What a nice...

May 18, 2011 - Wasaga Beach, Ont

Woke up to rain again. Different place, same pile! (Oops, did I say that?) Don was up and had breakfast cooking. He went off to work, and we drove over to Coldwater to surprise Darryill and Marg Spates (about 40 Km away). Surprise!!!!! They weren’t there. I guess we should have called first. We had called Darryill and Marg’s son Chris the night before and got the particulars (address & phone numbers). When we drove up into the driveway and they weren’t home, we left a note, and then on our way back to Wasaga, we called Darryill’s cell...

May 17, 2011 - Wasaga Beach, Ont

We woke up to cloudy skies and fog, but it wasn’t raining yet. We loaded up and jumped on the bikes, ready for a cool but hopefully dry ride. We left Montreal by 8 am, and were through Ottawa and past Perth by 11am, and still no rain. We stopped for lunch at a little café in a town on Hwy 7 (Trans Canada). Sitting next to us was a woman who grew up in Thompson, Manitoba. Her name is Laurie Hamilton, and her father worked at Inco. That was totalling an amazing coincidence. What a small world it is. After lunch, we continued on our way, at a...

Jun 16, 2009 - Wasaga Beach

We drove out to Wasaga this morning after saying our goodbyes to our new friends, the Jolly's. The longest fresh water beach at 14Km, temperatures around 26C, clear skies, perfect sunburn material. The water was warm, Warmer where the black sand lay, and had a very shallow incline. The result? Flynn could walk out quarter of a mile in the water and it still only came to his neck. He could have gone further apart from the ripples that made the sea bed go down deeper before raising back up. It is strange to watch people walking out to...

Jun 8, 2008 - Alliston ON

Sunday Sudbury to Alliston (near Barrie). The day started out partly cloudy but cleared and the temp went up rapidly, hitting 86 by mid afternoon.....Ed that's 30 for you.... Then it turned muggy and we had a few thunder showers. Tornado warnings for southern Ontario tomorrow. This morning we left camp without Chuck having filled his tank the night before. No problem so he thought, he had enough fuel for a couple hundred clicks....not many truck stops along that piece of highway though. He was under 1/8th of a tank and was getting pretty...
