the North West Company takes on Hudson Bay In 1815 two companies fought each other to control the North American the fur trade. They were the giant Hudson Bay Company and it’s arch rival the North West Company. It was a bloody battle over an industry that was already past it’s prime and starting to decline. Key to the survival of the North West Company was Fort William, a non-military fort in what is now the town of Thunder Bay, Ontario.
