Sep 16, 2007 - Watertown, Port Lyden and Lowville

I'm first going to explain everyone's relationship then talk about our time together. On my father's side; my father is the eldest, then Uncle Nate, Aunt Florence, Uncle Sam and then Uncle Dom. On my mother's side; Aunt Mary is the eldest, Uncle Tom, Aunt Lou and my mother is the baby. They all grew up and many still live in the North Country of upstate NY. We arrived at my Aunt Flo's home on Sunday and were treated to a feast for Sunday Lunch/dinner. She put out a spread that could've fed an army. My cousin Maria was visiting from...

Sep 15, 2007 - The Thousand Islands get a Dressing

Saturday 15th September From Niagara along the Lakeshore to Henderson Harbour. The forecast for today is reasonable - occasional showers and the wind abating. But as we get hooked up it rains heavily - drat. Then as we drive North to the Lakeside it gets windier - double drat. Though parts of the drive along the Lake Ontario Scenic Byway are really nice, once again - we comment on how for much of these scenic drives - actually all you see are trees and not the lakeshore of whatever is the "scenic" bit. We drive through Rochester - nice but...

Jul 20, 2007 - Down On Kingston

July 20 We left Montréal with a continuing torrential downpour. As we drove, the rain became progressively lighter and the weather reports on the good old CBC radio were reporting no rain in Kingston, which became our target. By this time, Blue's gas gauge was blinking warning signs and we were delighted to find gas at 96.9 cents per litre, bucking the national trend. We found...

Jun 20, 2007 - A Tragic Love Story

If you've never heard the story of George and Louise Boldt and Boldt Castle, get out your box of tissues before you read this. But I'm getting ahead of myself. Before we left Lake George, I took a photo of the magnificent view from our campsite . I may have been BORED at Lake George, but I've gotta admit that the place is gorgeous. Right now we're in Clayton, New York. Clayton is a picturesque little town right on the St. Lawrence River smack dab in the middle of the Thousand Islands. Ottawa (eastern Ontario, Canada) is right across the...
