Jul 3, 2017 - HOMEWARD BOUND

Some idiots getting in at stupid o'clock [after 0200] put a damper on a good sleep but the next peek at the clock was just before the alarm went off at 0550. Up for a shower and final packing before check out. Pricey Brussels hotel tax at 4.2 euros a day [even Rome was only 3.5] and then a brisk walk in the brisk morning air to Brussels Central. Good luck to start as the next train to the airport was just 8M away. The upgrade to first class was roughly 2 euros and at least you know you can take up 4 seats and likely not be hassled. Still...

Jun 9, 2017 - EUROPE BECKONS

Quite warm as I headed off at 1400, a reunion with Mom and Tabu 25 days in the offing. Traffic was a bit heavy en route to the airport but just delayed some 15M. Went hi tech re a kiosk to check in at Park 'n Fly. Brussels Airlines drew the short straw re check-in counter [#13, way at the end] but business class [excuse me] was quick. Don't know where the Nexus line was, seemingly melding into a very light regular security queue. Off to the Maple Leaf Lounge [Brussels Airlines being in the Star Alliance with Air Canada] for about 1H 40M,...

Aug 16, 2016 - Another day in Cayuga

Today was a down day, sleeping in, late breakfast, and weather not so nice. The wind was so harsh, our awning needed to go in. , we decided to take a trip into Stoney Creek, and have lunch, then came back home( our trailer) for more R&R. The weather turned around, ending up to be an nice late afternoon and evening. Frank wouldn't let me out side, because he didn't think the mosquitos, needed any more of my juice. So we stayed inside, had a visit with my sister, listening to our neighbours enjoying the fires outside Looking forward to...

Fresh Perch , yum yum! Later we enjoyed a Grasely Family reunion, which would include her children and grandchildren. Here at the campsite. We also had a BBQ It was so pleasant the see all the kids again, and here about there lives, now as adults. Frank and I are enjoying our camp site along the Grande River, the only drawback is the mosquitos, they love...

Jun 12, 2016 - Seeing the backroads - Lynden - in the countryside

June 12 leaving the Muskoka Lakes We spent most of our day travelling the back-roads of Ontario, on the highways it should take 2.5 hrs, not all day. Silly Jill had something to do with this. Going to Hamilton - Lynden Arrived at our Harvest Host farm. Wow what a spread, he had about 120 acres of Corn and about 5 acres of mowed lawn( with a 5 foot Kuboto). A few years ago, the Ontario government offered incentives for initial cost and to buy back of electricity generated by the Solar panels at ($0.82 / kw) for 20 years. They two...

May 14, 2016 - Hamilton to Niagara Falls

Oil change done, well for one of us anyway. Tony couldn't find a place that either had tall enough doors and a pit or a hoist big enough to lift his RV. Trying a different place this morning before we hit the road and tackle the dreaded 401 to Kingston. By all accounts, the length of our journey on the 407, a toll road, means we might have bought it outright! We drove to Niagara Falls, they are still flowing, I know right, where does all that water come from? Well along out way through northern Ontario, we passed an Atlantic Watershed sign...

May 13, 2016 - Sudbury to Hamilton

The day started off with Ernie and Coco morning ritual, oblutions then breakfast. The breakfast part was delayed, we were walking back towards the campsite, when a small bird, a plover I think, came walking up towards Coco, got close and fell over like it was injured. Ernie spotted his chance, slipped his collar and bolted after the bait! Bird not injured at all, feigning to distract from its nest, it took off.....with Ernie at full tilt trying to catch it. Off.....towards the highway, we had visions of pavement pelt resulting from this.he...

Oct 7, 2014 - Day 32

Hi Everybody, Well what a day we had today, after spending the night in one of the best motels of the trip, The Seneca Hotel Casino, we made our way on foot across the Rainbow Bridge to Canada where we took a cruise on the Niagara River to the base of Niagara Falls. You certainly don't have to get to close to the falls to feel their power, but this cruise was just awesome as the boat takes you close past the America Falls before taking you so close to the bottom of the Horseshoe Falls that not only does the mist and wind created by the...

Jul 28, 2013 - Adios Amigos - Hamilton, Ontario

The most sweet and sour of all feelings. I am in constant state of intense mixed feelings until I actually step on a plane, the door locking firmly behind me to keep me from turning back. Anxiety, excitement, fear and joy all fight each other in my head until the only choice is to move forward - then, if history repeats, all will be embraced and the real adventure begins.

May 24, 2013 - 90 years young

We all went to a restaurant on the mountain for mum's 90th birthday. What an achievement and to still be active and have your marbles! Mum and Dad, David and I, Sister Christine, brother Stephen and Anne Marie, Daniel and Bri and the baby, and Justin were all there for this occasion. And it was a lovely one too. We enjoyed a very nice meal and had a group photo together. This is a much quieter do than dad's 90th two years ago and also celebrating their 65th wedding anniversary, but this is how mum wanted it. The day was lovely and the weather...
