Jul 11, 2017 - Fenelon Falls to Brighton

Today’s trip took me through quite different countryside. I think I’ve left the Canadian Shield because lakes & forests have been replaced with farmland. The land is quite undulating but it was planted with crops, mostly corn. There were probably other crops but corn was the only one I could identify & was the most common. I stopped off in Peterborough to have a look at the lift lock there which at 19.8 metres is the highest in the world – the one at Kirkfield is only the 2nd highest. There were only 8 of them ever built in the world &...

Jul 8, 2015 - Paris, France- Day 1

Last night we flew out of Toronto on our trip to France. We left Toronto at 10:30 last night, and arrived here in France at noon. The flight was good, although we didn’t manage to get much sleep. It was about an hour taxi ride to our hotel, Hotel Prince de Conti on Rue Guenegaud. We did some afternoon sightseeing, before an early dinner. I’ve included some pictures from our walking tour in the local neighbourhood. Tonight it is early to bed, and try and catch up on our lack of sleep.

Jun 3, 2015 - Rally Bound

It seems like a long time since we have been RVing, although it is only a month and a half since we returned home from Florida. Yesterday I helped son Peter pick up a couple of loads of hardwood flooring for his new house renovation, before escaping mid-afternoon toward our Carriage rally at Kingston. We were invited to a birthday party for our friend Larry at the KOA campground at Brighton. I probably should have remained at the farm and got some more spraying done, however my arthritis has really been bothering me, so I thought a break...

Aug 20, 2011 - Hello again to Lynne and a great day by the lake

Lynne arrived safely although two hours late. Her first day was a quiet time enjoying the sunshine. The next day we headed to Presqu'ille Provincial Park on Lake Ontario. It was a glorious day. Our first walk was the Marsh Boardwalk. As the name implies the boardwalk takes you across the many environs of the marsh land. Although there was very few birds there was some interesting flowers. Lynne tried her hand on the saddle trees. We then had our picnic by Lake Ontario before visiting the lighthouse and museum which told the history of the...

Jun 20, 2011 - Presqu'ile

With the Petroglyphs Park closed until Wednesday, we had two days to wait. We decided to go South, down to Presqu'ile Park on the shores of Lake Ontario. It is near Brighton, where I once had cousins. When I lived with my aunt in Toronto in early 1972, we took the bus to visit them there. And I was back in 1977 for my cousin Rob's wedding. On our way there, we stopped for lunch at the Crossroads Restaurant in Havelock. It was run by two attractive young women, and all the staff was flashing around at high speed. We had a bite, and then were...

Apr 23, 2011 - Two weeks in Brighton

As we had crossed early into Canada there was very few campgrounds open so we spent two weeks in Brighton, Ontario. The weather was very variable with days of snow, rain, wind and very occasionally sunshine. On the days the sun was around we headed out to local parks to do some walking to try to start getting ourselves fit again after a rather lethargic winter. The rest of the time we spent undertaking further research and planning for our return to England. We occasionally went out just to avoid cabin fever!

Apr 9, 2011 - Hello Canada again!

We crossed back into Canada for the summer. For the first time we were searched by the Canadian border guards as they were searching all RV's. No problems. We were through the border in less than half hour. At this time of year there are very few campgrounds open but we had contacted Mari at the KOA at Brighton, Ontario and she was happy for us to to go in and stop a while. We decided we would go in and stay for two weeks. We will then start heading east as campgrounds will then be open for the summer.

Aug 26, 2010 - Presqu'ile Provincial Park

Our flight back to Canada was uneventful and arrived back at the campground in Brighton, Ontario in the early evening. Everything was fine with the coach except we found signs of a mouse having enjoyed Tony's liquorice allsorts. So we set a few traps. After a good night sleep, the next day we shopped to fill the fridge with food and then in the afternoon went to collect Jenny. She had had a wonderful time at Lisa and Christine’s and was in fine form. Mum had not seen Jenny for three years. The next day we decided to explore the area around...

Jul 30, 2010 - Preparing for a quick visit home

We left Cardinal and headed west again to Brighton, Ontario. This would be our coach base while we flew home to England from Toronto for three weeks. Why Brighton you may ask? It was a good location between Toronto Airport and Yarker, Ontario where Jenny was being cared for by Lisa and Christine of Dogs Without Borders. Jenny had been cared for by Christine and Lisa twice in Calgary when we had flown home before. The girls had now moved to Ontario to expand their business and so it was a good opportunity to use them again as Jenny had...
