The route today had us leaving Fort Frances alongside Rainy Lake. It is one of a series of large lakes, along with the many smaller lakes, that provided early trade routes from the Atlantic to the Arctic through the Great Lakes to Lake of the Woods and Lake Winnipeg. The road itself had nothing noteworthy to see, not even towns, and there was a moderate wind from the South. Aug 16, 2012 - Atikokan

We were torn between driving a new road thru Dryden or going a familiar road thru Atikokan. Atikokan won because we wanted to stop and say hi to friends. We ended up staying 3 nights. Our friends at Canoe Canada (our wilderness canoe trip outfitter) referred us to a campground on Findlayson Lake. On our way into town we had stopped for breakfast at the Outdoorsman Restaurant.
