The coastal fishing and forestry communities of Clare, collectively referred to as the French Acadian Shore, hugs the picturesque Baie Sante-Marie for over 30 miles between Digby and Yarmouth along the longest main street in the world. Along the coast is St Mary’s Church at Church Point, the largest wooden church in North America. The spire rises an impressive 185 feet. The church was built in two years, between 1903 and 1905, with the help of 1500 volunteers. The master carpenter, whose name was Leo Melanson, could neither read nor write....
