Jul 25, 2017 - Amherst, NS.

Well, we made it to Nova Scotia, after a few years talking about it. The day started out a little hectic. We got an e-mail saying there were more papers to sign on the house. We now have a 4 hour time difference. When we went into Canada we didn't think we would have cell service. Thank goodness, Verizon includes Canada in your Domestic plan. So to sign and fax we had to find a Staples. If only the papers were sent so we could Esign them. We went driving through the town of Fredericton looking for a Staples in the Motorhome. Only took the...

Sep 24, 2015 - farewell to Nova Scotia

Early start today , were in Lunenburg by 8:30. Underway by 9 30 on a beautiful sunny morning just enough breeze to have a nice smooth ride. Was very interesting watching the crew do their thing and chatting with them. Had a nice lunch overlooking the harbor and headed to get the van. No major issues but they tweeked a few things and seemed to get the timing just right. Got an oil change too. Left there and drove to Amherst where we found another nice campground. Might freeze tonight so got power so we can put the heater on. Tomorrow we head...

Aug 8, 2015 - Loch Lomond and a Birthday Celebration

Wednesday’s drive from Havre Boucher to Amherst was a pleasant relatively short trip. We are back at Loch Lomond Campground the second home campground of our Dunedin next door neighbors, Susan and David Burke. The Burkes treated Sue, and me as well, to a terrific dinner for her birthday at Duncan’s Pub in Amherst. It was a fun few days relaxing with Susan and David for our last days in Canada. I thought that I had things locked in with reservations for our return to the States – until I checked! It turned out that I overlooked our next two...

Jun 12, 2015 - Visiting the Burkes

Our trip from Saint John to Amherst, NS was a short, although bumpy, 135-mile drive. We were greeted by our friends, Susan and David Burke, even before we arrived at Loch Lomond RV Park. I had made a quick restroom stop beside highway 2 about 10 miles short of our destination. David and Susan happened to be driving by and pulled over to see if we had a problem. Both Sue and I were surprised by their early greeting. We are set up in a nice pull-thru full-hookup site with 50-amp power. The only negative is a lack of operating wifi at the...

May 6, 2015 - First time to the Maritimes

May 4th: Left Courtney's home at 9:00 am to head for the Maritimes. Temperatures in Quebec were heading to 27 c. Time to head to cooler temps. Lots of choices as to our route and destination. We decided to catch the ferry across the St Lawrence to head East. Ferry cost $15.00 for car and 2 adults. Similar ferry to Hornby Island. BC needs to take note. Travelled east on Hwy 40 to Quebec City. Great hwy, smooth sailing until we hit a traffic jam in Quebec. A one our delay, bottleneck to cross the bridge. We decided to head through Maine....

Maritimes= Fall 2013

Aug 25, 2013 - Amherst and the Burkes

On Friday we arrived at the Loch Lomond Campground in Amherst, NS where our Florida next door neighbors, Susan and David Burke, have their fifth wheel. David and Susan have a home in Moncton, NS about 45 minutes north of here. They had a arranged for a nice 50-amp full-hookup site for us. We settled in and enjoyed a traditional Maritime Hodge Podge dinner that Susan prepared. After a day of rest yesterday we headed out in the Burke’s car for a day trip. We drove about an hour and a half to the Hopewell Rocks on the Bay of Fundy. Because...

Oct 9, 2012 - Day 86 - Nova Scotia north shore, New Glasgow to Amherst

We travelled today along the north shore of Nova Scotia from New Glasgow to Amherst, the leaves were in full color and the sun was shining, mostly. We drove the scenic route with more ease than yesterday. We stopped at Tatamagouche for lunch at the Train Station Hotel and Restaurant. You eat in a dining car and can actually sleep in a caboose or box car. All beautifully decorated. Garry says their Seafood Chowder was the best of the trip so far. We continued on to Amherst then went north back to Moncton, to Campers City RV Park. Mel and...

Aug 13, 2012 - We made it! Nova Scotia today! ***Loch Lomond Campgrounds, Amherst, Nova Scotia

We made it! Nova Scotia today. After traveling the "scenic route"...read bumpy, narrow, patched roads...we are in Nova Scotia. We stopped at the Welcome Center, talked to a very friendly, helpful employee. She even telephoned the campground we were interested in, verifing there was an opening for our rig. We are in the "first" town coming into the island via highway, Amherst, as opposed to arriving by ferry. Nova Scotia, so far, looks like the rest of New Brunswick, lots and lots of trees, a few farms, coastline along the Bay of Fundy....

Jun 18, 2012 - Loch Lomond Campground

The first several photos posted today are at high tide on the Bay of Fundy. Most were taken from the spot where a couple of days ago I took them at low tide. They claim the highest tides in the world, occur in this region ranging from 40-50 feet! We reluctantly left Fundy National Park this morning. Primarily because we enjoyed our campsite so much. The deer flies, black flies and mosquitos (they all bite) though were easily left behind. A liesurely drive up the Choclate River to Moncton took up our morning. The river looks like milk...

Aug 3, 2011 - Summerside, PEI to Amherst, Nova Scotia 70 miles

We drove a short distance to Amherst, Nova Scotia. We stopped just over the NS border at the Visitor Center. We were amazed at how well organized the provincial brochure is and also how helpful the people were at the VC. All the men at the VC looked very Scottish - Medium height, stocky and many with curly even some w/red hair! Both the men and women smiled and were very knowledgable in answering our questions. We were greeted within our first 3 hours with a terrible thunder storm w/lightning cracking all around us. Bonnie was petrified and...

Jul 3, 2011 - 4th July on the 3rd of July

As usual when we are at Charlie’s and Melanie’s we always enjoy one of their many social engagements of the folks who live on the north shore. This time was no exception when we joined them at Charlie’s cousin house (Bobby and Brenda) for a 4th of July party. We had met many of the people before. Unfortunately Heather forgot to take her camera so no photos. It was a very enjoyable evening once again.
