We spent the last couple of days at a park in Thorburn Lake, NFLD. We attended a Pageant in a little fishing village, named Trinity. The Pageant is best described as a roving pageant depicting life in the 1700’s. It was certainly a hard life, primarily fishing and whaling with a little farming thrown in. The second day we toured the coast and visited a fantastic lighthouse in Bonvista, as well as the place John Cabot landed in Newfoundland. Aug 19, 2010 - Thorburn Lake, NL - Lakeside at Thorburn

Our trip to Thorburn Lake was 126 miles with almost half of it spent in dense fog and rain as we negotiated the mountains between the Avalon Peninsula and the rest of Newfoundland. At higher elevations I had to reduce our speed to about 40-45 due to the limited visibilty. Now by higher elevations we are only talking 500 feet here but it is remarkable the difference in weather on top and down below.
