We spent at least an hour in the visitor centre before leaving. The lady working there had lots of information to share and we picked up a pile of brochures and maps. The morning was nice and we made our first stop the Castle Hill historic site just down the road above the town of Placentia. This is where the French tried to establish their claim on the Newfoundland fisheries back in the 1600’s. They built a fort and waged war with the British from there. However, France lost interest after a few years, shifting their focus to the mainland...
