Sep 3, 2017 - L'Anse aux Meadows

A much better day. Still quite windy with the wind coming from the opposite direction – yesterday it was easterly, today it’s coming from the west, but it’s clear & sunny. I finally got to L’Anse aux Meadows, the only authenticated Norse site in North America, which was a real thrill for me. There have been references to Norse journeys to North America in the Sagas which were mostly oral until they were written down in the 1200s, but until 1960, they were just stories. Sep 2, 2017 - Quirpon

Another boring entry. According to the weather on the Internet, yesterday’s high was 10.6C & we got 60mm of rain. Today’s forecast wasn’t much better. It rained all night but stopped about lunch-time, however the wind is still very strong so I’m not going anywhere. It’s frustrating because the Viking village, which is something I really want to see, is only about 5 km away. Aug 13, 2008 - Born to Spawn!

Return of the Atlantic Salmon - Wednesday, August 13 Today's drive started in Cow Head and took us on a 236 mile trip to Quirpon, a small town at the very end of the Northern Peninsula. Here you are as far north as it is possible to get in Newfoundland, and in fact we are north of the ferry terminal where we will land in Labrador on Saturday. For the first two hours we drove along the shores of the Gulf of St. Lawrence. By late morning we reached Hawkes Bay, where we stopped to see the Torrent River salmon enhancement project. We spent an...
