When we got up this morning the weather was breaking and blue sky was showing. Off to The Tablelands for a guided walk that started at 10:00. Stopped at the Discovery Centre to buy our daily park passes ($10/each) and then drove to the Tablelands parking lot to met our interpreter. He was a French and had visited Newfoundland 9 years ago and stayed. A great 2+ hour walk along a fairly level trail with 7-8 stops where he talked about the rocks and plants. It was fascinating! Sep 17, 2010 - Lomond River

We decided to leave L'Anse aux Meadows this morning as the weather has only marginally improved and we have done everything we wanted to in this area. Left about 9:30. Easy drive and stopped at the Torrent River Salmon Interpretive Centre and Fishway for lunch. After lunch we toured the center and saw the salmon climbing the ladder. You viewed the salmon in an underwater counting room They count every salmon that passes. Over 5000 this year. Last year about 3500. Atlantic Salmon do not die after they lay their eggs but return to the ocean...

Jul 4, 2010 - Lomond, Newfoundland

7/4 – 7/7 Three days brought us 245 miles (plus 100 ferry miles) to Lomond, Newfoundland (PH1, ferry, PH1, PH430, PR431). The first day we drove from Baddeck to North Sidney. Our first stop that day was at a food store parking lot in North Sidney where we met up with our traveling partners for the next couple of months, Tom and Deb. We did some final shopping and around 8:00 PM we drove to the ferry terminal where we queued up for the morning ferry. The next morning the ferry started loading at 7:00 AM and we were underway by 8:00 AM. The...
