Sep 8, 2016 - Drive to Twillingate

All night long the wind howled so much the cubbards were shaking. And it rained as well. In the morning,it was calm and light drizzle, and a bit on the cool side. Having said that, it was warm while sleeping, even had our fan going. Strange night ! We decided to drive up toward Twillingate and see the town people often talked about. Well, I think if we were there in August it would be a happening place. A lot of places were closed down for the season. It was a nice drive up, but the truck took a beating with many potholes on the road. We...

Sep 7, 2016 - Norte Dame Provincial Park

First we want to wish Rita a very Happy Birthday! We arrived at our next resting stop at the Notre Dame Provincial Park in Lewisporte, not far from Gander. We are happy to find a spot close to the water, and now that the long weekend has passed , it's getting easier to find spots as we continue towards St John's in a few days. We are in the Central area of Newfoundland and plan on going to Twillingate in the morning., and area. We have had a nice day , cloudy, and warm . We are missing you all, but are truly grateful for this opportunity...

Sep 11, 2009 - Lewisporte & Twillingate

The day's trip is rather bittersweet. We're heading down the Road to the Isles to Twillingate; originally hoping to meet up with a mutual friend - Marie Legge - who we all got to know & enjoy spending time with in our 2007 Mexico trip. However, she was diagnosed with cancer & died on Jan.28, 2009. So now, instead , our mission in visiting Twillingate was one of hoping to find her grave & pay our last respects. Talk about a "this is God" moment! We stopped at a 'tour boat' place - I volunteered to go inside, and the very first person I...

Jun 29, 2009 - I get offered a job!

Glorious sunshine! Clear skies! What a lovely day. We leave Bishop’s Falls and head towards Twillingate. We stop at Lewisporte for lunch. Alexs watch has stopped once again. We find a small jeweller shop and pop in to check the battery. Normally it has been the mechanism playing up, and a puff of air gets it going. After an eternity the lady pops out with “I’m sorry I can’t get the back off.” Spying the tool in her hand I ask if she also has a small screwdriver I can use. Once armed with the screwdriver and her tool I promptly whip the back...

Aug 20, 2008 - 53.7 degrees North Latitude

That’s Bond - Sir Robert Bond! - Wednesday, August 20 I woke up this morning considerably less apprehensive than yesterday - but I couldn’t fully relax until we were onboard the ship. It only runs once a week, and if for any reason we weren’t able to board this morning it would be a long week in Cartwright where there is no campground and not much to do for visitors who don’t know anyone who lives here. It was raining but the ferry was in. I’d heard the whistle at 6:00 AM announcing it’s arrival. The ship is the Sir Robert Bond, an old...
