Beothuk people showed good sense - but it didn’t save them - Sunday, August 24 South of Twillingate there is a small town named Boyd’s Cove, where there is a Beothuk Interpretation Centre. The Beothuk were aboriginal people who inhabited the area from about 1,200 years ago until approximately 1720. A hundred years later the European culture finally succeeded in extinguishing them altogether and today they are extinct. It was sunny when we left St. John's on Sunday morning and started back toward the west. Our trip was a relatively short one of about 175 miles to Eastport, a small community just north of Terra Nova National Park. Terra Nova is the most eastern national park and was the first to be established in Newfoundland. When we arrived at Sunshine Park we found that we were in a different type of campground from the others we have visited.
