Jul 3, 2017 - we are as far as we can go, Wadoberu!
The sun is peeking out this morning as we zoom off to Cape Spear so we can show Wadoberu the eastern most point of North America. Apparently being here for sunrise is something of a tradition but it is a well-documented fact our photographer does not favour sunrises. Above the lighthouse by the famous Red Chairs we meet a Calgary couple we had first met outside Port aux Basques. They kindly share some impressions of places we have yet to explore and we talk about the wonderful people we have met and the amazing places we have seen in NFLD....Jump to full entry
Aug 30, 2010 - Brigus
Another blue sky morning. Off to Brigus which is an old village on the shore of Conception Bay. It was beautiful. Homes were small cottages in excellent condition. Roads were very narrow. Really only one lane in a lot of places. We toured an historic site – The Hawthorne Cottage. This had been the home of James Bartlett who was a very famous ship captain from the area. He was the captain of the ship that took Peary to the North Pole and on his famous "dashes to the pole". He, in total, made about 20 voyages to the Arctic. Brigus has a...Jump to full entry
Aug 29, 2010 - Cupids
Time to leave St. John's. It's been a great week and we feel that we know the city as well as you can in a week. We hit all the tourist spots and had two great fish and chips meals. We also toured the surrounding area and even though we haven't seen any whales yet our boat tours were worth it. Now it's time to start our slow journey west to Port Aux Basques. It will take about four weeks. First stop the west side of Conception Bay. We said goodbye to carl and Pat from Listowel and left the park about 11:00.
