Jun 13, 2019 - Botanic Garden & Mactaquac Generating Station

The mornings are cool! 50, but then reaches in the high 70’s by afternoon. Perfect! Today we went to Odell Park to walk the wooded graveled paths. 400 acres of woods & paths and the Fredericton Botanic Garden. However…we parked in the lower lot & a gentleman told us the garden was up the hill. Off we went with Rupert along side. I must say the paths were not at all very well marked. Different paths to take with no markers as to where they lead. A couple of young ladies offered to take our picture. They were employees of the park & were out...

Jun 12, 2019 - A Little Bit of Heaven

We have really enjoyed our campsite at St Andrews ocean view. But we must move onto our next stop. We pulled out this morning around 9:30 & arrived at Hartt Island RV Resort before noon. Quickley set up camp & had a quick lunch so we could go into the town. Lots of history here. A well guided tour of the town by a young fellow that did the tour both in english & french! Seems there were some tourist visiting here from Paris. That made things pretty interesting just listening to the tour guide! After the tour I than bought postage stamps in...

Jun 18, 2018 - Visit King’s Landing Historical Settlement, Fredericton, New Brunswick

June 18 – Visit King’s Landing Historical Settlement, Fredericton, New Brunswick In the rain, we visited a restoration of a British Loyalists settlement that covered the period from the late 1700’s to 1900. There were several dozen buildings each with an interpreter who described the living conditions, customs etc. The restored water-powered saw mill and buckwheat grist mill were the most interesting to us. A 6’-long vertical saw blade was passing thru a log at about one stroke per second. A water wheel powered a 12’-diameter wooden gear...

May 15, 2018 - Fredericton

The motorhome is all serviced & everything checked out just fine so now I’m in full sight-seeing mode. The Ford dealer had a shuttle which took me downtown then picked me up when the motorhome was ready so I had a whole morning to discover Fredericton which is a delightful city. Although it’s the capital of New Brunswick is only the 3rd largest city after Moncton & St Johns. The population of the whole province is less than 800,000 so none of the cities are very big. The floods have completely receded & don’t seem to have left any lasting...

May 14, 2018 - St Andrews to Fredericton

I woke up early so was at RV World in Fredericton by 9:30. Unfortunately, the problem with the levellers wasn’t a 5 minute fix, reconnecting a loose wire as I’d hoped. At noon, the Service Manager finally told me that after checking all the fuses & relays he could find, he’d got power to the unit by disconnecting & reconnecting it. That was the good news, the bad news was that the jacks still wouldn’t work. He now thinks it’s a hydraulic problem which they don’t work on. He gave me a couple of names in Fredericton but neither of them could...

May 4, 2018 - Fredericton

A wasted day but I was comfortable at the Holiday Inn & at least had a good rest. I’m really glad I chose to stay at a motel for these 2 nights because otherwise I would have been wandering the streets all day while the motorhome was sitting at the Ford dealer. I took it there just after 8:00am & was told it should be ready by lunch-time. I gave them until 2:30pm then called to see what was going on. They still hadn’t started on it! Not very happy & even more annoyed when they called later in the afternoon & told me they wouldn’t be able to...

May 3, 2018 - Toronto to Fredericton

A very short night & although I paid for a seat upgrade, it still wasn’t very comfortable so didn’t get much sleep. We left Toronto on time at 10:35pm & the flight was 30 minutes shorter than it was supposed to be so we got into Toronto very early – just after 5:00am. It was a longer layover than I would have liked because we arrived early & the flight to Fredericton was late. I was so tired, I was afraid of going to sleep while I was waiting but I met a bloke from Edmonton who was in the same situation so we kept each other...

Oct 7, 2017 - Kings Landing

We left Dieppe around 1:00 pm on Thursday, October 5 and another terrific day. The sun was shining and we travelled along the TCH, #2 West, to a kalidescope of color. The variety of red, orange, and yellow leaves reminded us of our previous visit to the Maritimes. Pat and Emery, just like Henry and Diane, are snowbird friends from Mesa and they are our hosts in Fredericton. Once again we are being treated royally. They have an area near their home that we are parked and power is keeping our fridge going. Yesterday Emery was our chauffeur...

65 is good!

Oct 3, 2017 - Fredericton

One of the first things I needed to do this morning was visit the local place the lady at the campground told me would winterise the motorhome for $40. I spoke to the people there & had it all organised for them to do it next week & almost as an afterthought, confirmed the price of $40. That’s when I was told I’d been misinformed, their price was $125 plus they’d charge $50 to drive 1km down the road to do it here. That changed everything. I came back to the campground & the lady was very apologetic but that’s what she pays a friend to do...

Oct 2, 2017 - Fredericton

A really exciting day cleaning the stove, defrosting & cleaning the fridge & generally sorting out everything I can think of. After several conversations with different people I’ve decided to store the motorhome here at the RV Park. The manager has been incredibly friendly, helpful & supportive. She has her own trailer here so I trust her judgement. She’ll organise the winterising of the water system after I leave so I can use it up to Wednesday morning & all I have to do is park it where she tells me then get a taxi to the airport. I also...

Oct 1, 2017 - St Andrews to Fredericton

Well, I’m safely in Fredericton so all I need to do is sort the motorhome out, make it cosy for the winter, then get on a plane to Toronto on Wednesday. I’m having second thoughts about the place I’d chosen to store it so need to make some phone calls tomorrow. It seems that RV World, the place I’d selected, is way more expensive than anywhere else & when I went past there on my way into Fredericton I wasn’t very impressed with the location or the security around the place. They want to charge me $700 to winterise & store it until next May...
