Jul 10, 2017 - Golden - Vernon

Today was a highlight - we visited a Buffalo ranch. Chester the dominant male brought the herd up to the viewing platform when he heard that oats were on the breaky menu. He was huge about 2000lbs or 1 tonne of pure buffalo! There were babies about a month old who were very cute. Sorry can't upload photos my icloud is playing up! We then travelled up to Rogers Pass in the Glacier National Park - again stunning scenery. The wildfires (bush fires) kept the view smoky today, but didn't really take away from our viewing. Thankfully, this...

Oct 27, 2016 - Back in Vernon

We left Lincoln Rock in the rain and were very happy we didn't have to sleep another night in the Westy. It rained hard until Omak and then the rest of the way we had light rain. The border was quiet and the border patrol asked us many questions but never about alcohol or cigarettes. We could have brought back a case of wine from Plymouth! That's the stink of it.....you never know what they will ask. We arrived home around 5 pm and it was already getting dark. We unloaded most of the stuff from the Westy before having dinner. We spent the...

Aug 30, 2016 - Day 65 Vernon, BC

Day 64 Silver Star RV Park. Sun again today. Leisure start then went up to a large park and went for a hike. Very nice up and down and ended at a point that overlooked the town. Met some locals on the trail and talked about how the town had grown. Vernon has a population of 38,000. We didn't realize the towns around here were so big. Had lunch along the hike. Got really hot. Came back to camper and showered and went out to dinner at an Irish Pub. They had Guinness on tap which made John happy. Food was not memorable. We haven't been too...

Aug 29, 2016 - Day 64 Vernon, BC

Day 64 silver Star RV Park. Very nice park on a lake. Very neat with large sites. Wifi by office and laundry. This area is high desert. Looks a lot like Grand Junction, lots of sage and rabbit grass. Sun all day and hot! Upper 70's. We were'nt right on the lake as those sites were a little smaller, but had a good view of it. Actually, after we used wifi while doing laundry we found we were still connected at campsite.

Jun 6, 2015 - Vernon and the End of an Era!

The weeks were dragging on. There was some interest in the coach but no offers. Then all of a sudden all hell broke loose. On Wednesday May 26 in the morning Larry received some interest from a man in Las Vegas. He proceeded to make an offer. Larry countered. The guy suggested another price that included the car. Then the research began on both ends about taking both vehicles into the US. On Wednesday afternoon, Larry received another reply from some people in Leduc AB. A couple of days later the man's brother, who lives in Vernon, stopped...

Aug 31, 2014 - Odds & Ends

It's been a quiet but busy few months since our cruise. There were the usual, and not so usual, Resort events: dinner on June 28 (ribs, potatoes, coleslaw, veggies, dessert), wonderful turnout for Canada Day (BBQ burgers, hot dogs and all the fixings), dinner on July 26 (spaghetti, Caesar salad, garlic toast, strawberry cheesecake), the wedding of a couple from here who have been renting for years (this was a first for us), the arrival of a new park model, a breakfast August 12 (eggs, sausage, English muffin, potatoes), a propane BBQ blew...

A quick trip out to the Okanagan to catch up with family and friends. First stop was Kelowna for a visit with Barb, Kevin and Pisco. When it rains in the Okanagan, go wine tasting. We tasted some great wine at Ruby Blue, had a wonderful lunch at The Vanilla Pod restaurant at Poplar Grove winery and finished things off with a tasting at Township 7. Then a delicious meal prepared perfectly by chef Kevin. A great visit! Then it was off to Vernon to surprise Evelyn with an early 70th birthday celebration. We were joined by Lorie and Terry and...

Jun 3, 2014 - Jasper to Vernon 1 & 2 June

We are now in Whistler, but this entry will cover our movements from Jasper until we left Vernon. We left Jasper on Saturday 31 May and travelled to stay at the Sparkling Hills Resort (and Spa) at Vernon. It was built and owned by one of the Swarovski family members and has Swarovski crystals incorporated into every aspect of its design, 3.5 million crystals worth over $10 million. After a tour dinner we retired to bed. Our room overlooked Lake Okanagan and we had a bath in the lounge with floor to ceiling windows giving a marvellous view...

Apr 19, 2014 - home cold home

I know its been a few weeks since the last update but we had no internet and the I somehow downloaded something that would not allow me to download my pictures from my camera. I eventually had to reboot my computer the factory default and the download everything again. April 8 It was 7C when we left Mountain Home heading to Pendleton, Or. Had some very steep inclines to climb and then just before Pendleton I believe we dropped at least 1000 feet. Traveled 454 km today and arrived around 2pm, 25C. We parked at the Wild Horse Casino and met a...

Apr 30, 2013 - Settling Back into Vernon

The first week and a half back in Vernon the weather was warm, calm and sunny. Larry re-immersed himself in the Treasurer job at Swan Lake RV Resort. Over the winter he's created a new website, set up new payment software for maintenance fees, dealt with problems, readied everything for new managers. He was able to do it all on line. When he got back he organized the clean-up of the files and office as well as setting up a small convenience store in the registration office. Beverly and Mike were already working hard when we got back (they...
