Jul 2, 2014 - July 1 and 2 AK Highway in reverse

We packed up in the rain - again. Checked the camper brake settings after yesterday's repairs. All okay. Went for breakfast at Fast Eddie's but it was way too full, so on down the road we went. Didn't find any place to eat till we hit the US/CA border - Border City RV and Motel. Homemade hashbowns from fresh potatoes, country cured bacon and great eggs. $10 included coffee! A deal and a treat. Paul saw a black bear, just east of Pickhandle Lake and a moose at the Kluane Village Campground area. I 'shot' my first grizzly bear near Lewis...

To Alaska and Back

Jun 20, 2010 - Father's Day on the Road

Sunday: We were up at 2:12am AK time and 57 degrees. We departed at 3:12am and the temperature had dropped to 55 degrees. We were in Canada in 4 miles and lost 1 hour, because of the time change back to Pacific Time. The Canada border customs is 20 miles on into Canada. We went thru customs at 7:03PT, and had a smooth crossing. We stopped and took pictures at a Kluane River overlook turnout. We stopped at a rest area in Whitehorse, Yukon, unhooked the truck, and went to Walmart and to Super Store, a grocery store which is Whitehorse's...

Jun 18, 2009 - Watson Lake to Teslin Lake

We got another early start as we wanted to leave the dirt parking lot as soon as possible. Almost immediately we spotted a large Black Bear eating on the side of the road. Vicki took lots of pictures. Shortly we passed more buffalo with more photo ops. This stretch of road was good but did have some patches of repair work. The day was clear and sunny for the entire day. We stopped at a nice pullout by the Smart River to eat some lunch and do a little fishing. Vicki out fished me again by catching a nice 18” Grayling which we kept for a...

Jun 19, 2008 - Liard River Hot Spring to Teslin, BC

Mileage at start of day 64,787 Still no phone service, but we do have WiFi. We are camped by a beautiful lake after a fairly long day. Tomorrow will be short into Whitehorse, hoping for phone service. Today was mostly scenery, but I did see one buffalo (after two different signs warning of buffalo on the roads), one brown/grizzly bear that ran in front of the RV in front of us - I thought I'd see him to take a picture but he was gone into the woods before we got up to it, one black bear (I got so many good pictures yesterday of black bears...

May 29, 2008 - Watson Lake to Teslin & Mukluk Annie’s Sunny with some clouds 60’s 173 miles

We spent a couple hours looking at the signs in the Signpost Forest which was started by Army G. I., Carl K. Lindley of Danville, IL, a highway worker during the construction of the Alaskan Hwy. back in 1942. To date there are over 62,000 signs added by tourist of whom we are one of the contributors. Continuing down the hwy. we stopped at DC 695.2 and took a short boardwalk trail thru the boreal forest to the picturesque Rancheria Falls. Our hopes of seeing the Teslin Tlingit (kling-it) Heritage Centre in Teslin were squelched as they...
