Mon, 06 Aug: We awoke to a rainy morning. Rainy and clouds so low they were almost at ground level. We weren't in any particular rush, so we took our time getting Carpe ready to roll. Bob took advantage of some lulls between showers to dump the holding tanks and top off the fresh water. Checkout at the RV park was 1100 and we rolled wheels at that time. Bob drove the short distance back to Portage Cove and parked in one of the turnouts to enjoy lunch. We then continued to the Alaska State Ferry Terminal where we queued Carpe in a lane full...

Many believed that, to get rich in 1898, you went through Skagway. The stories are legend about corruption, thievery, murder. The trail to the gold fields was treacherous at best, with death to men, women and horses being common. Realizing riches from gold was rare. More likely people became rich by running the mercantile, the saloon, and the bordello, or through cirminal activities. We, on the other hand found the town quiet and charming. Jul 26, 2010 - Haines / Skagway Ferry

We left Hitchem up C.G. headed for the ferry terminal 5 miles away. We check in and are assigned lane 11. Next thing I know there is Mr. Grizly walking down the road. At 2:00 P.M. the boat arrives. It takes 1 1/2 hours to unload all types of vehicles. Now its our turn. You drive into the lower deck and are assigned a lane. They marshal you in towards the stern. You must exit your vehicle and go upstairs. We check out the solarium at the rear of the boat. People in tents,sleeping bags,lounge chairs. A poor mans cruise. An hour later we...
