Dec 9, 2018 - How Does Six Months Go By So Fast?!

The time seems to fly by so fast and it doesn't feel like we did much. The garden was very successful this year. By the time the rain started in early September there were many, many tomatoes to pick. What to do with them all? Four batches of green tomato salsa, tomato jam, bruschetta and some to eat. It is estimated that we had about 60 pounds of them in all from 22 plants. The potatoes were also very successful and we will grow more next year. We are also hoping to upgrade and increase the size of the greenhouse. Kelly completed...

Feb 21, 2016 - And Home Again!

It was smokin' hot at the NHRA Winternationals Drag Races in Pomona! Definitely the hottest we've encountered - close to 90 (30 C) each day. We drank so much water you'd think we'd float away! We had bought Top Eliminator Club tickets again and this time we sat in section AA, Row 2. These were the best seats we've ever had in the past 9 years. We had a straight look right from the start to the finish. Ice and water or lemonade are provided each day. On Saturday and Sunday there is a Continental Breakfast and always coffee and tea. Also on...

Aug 11, 2015 - Sechelt, British Columbia

August 7-9, 2015 Days 6-8 Ever since moving back into the Great Pacific Northwest, I’ve wanted to visit British Columbia’s “Sunshine Coast.” Wikipedia says The Sunshine Coast is a region of the southern mainland coast of British Columbia, Canada, on the eastern shore of the Strait of Georgia, and just northwest of Greater Vancouver. The region includes the coastal areas of the regional district of Sunshine Coast, where the name originated, and more recently the regional district of Powell River up to and including the village of Lund,...

Jul 11, 2015 - And the Start of a New Era!

Apologies are in order! First because it's been so long since the last episode. Second because of all the photos of birds. This is our new life! This is what's happening beyond our deck - two families of geese, one with five kids (including a runty one) and one with just one kid; a large merganser family with 13 babies; and our precious eagles - our usual pair with two kids. Unfortunately one evening last week the eagle nest collapsed. The young ones were not quite old enough for sitting 24/7 on a branch. They seem to be surviving ok with...

Apr 30, 2015 - Sechelt 2015

We arrived in Sechelt on March 26. Larry once again snugged the coach right into the driveway no problem. The weather for the following month was mostly rainy and quite cool but there were a few days of brilliant sunshine just to keep us happy. On two occasions, April 4 and 12, there was fresh snow on the mountains. Far too late for that! Kelly manages two slo-pitch teams, playing on one of them, so there were lots of ball games to watch. We had to wear long pants, take winter coats and gloves, and blankets. Larry busied himself with...

Oct 21, 2014 - Preparing to Go South (or, It's All About the Food!)

When we got back from our Alberta trip, Dan and Rick had arrived in the Resort. They are new to the full-time RV lifestyle and loving it. Dan and Maureen worked together at Peace Arch Community Services for years - they both started in 1988 and Dan was still there when Maureen left in 2005. It was great to catch up! The second Ladies Night was held on September 25 at the Resort. There were 34 ladies this time compared to 14 last time. The food was incredible! The men decided that they needed a night out too so about 12 of them went to...

Apr 4, 2014 - Hesperia, Pahrump, Las Vegas, Back to Canada

We left San Diego on March 15 around 10 am. We were in no real rush. However, there was a problem when Larry was dumping the sewer - a blockage somewhere. It only took a couple of hours to drive to Hesperia - just north of El Cajon Pass. Traffic was fairly light and flowing well. When we got to Desert Willow RV in Hesperia we worked on the blockage. That took a while! Fortunately we had no neighbours yet. We kept the mess to a minimum. We finished that about 4:00 and realized we hadn't had any lunch. We went to Sizzler for dinner. It was...

Dec 30, 2011 - Christmas in Sechelt

First let us apologize for all the cat photos - she is so darned cute! And she's the first feline in our family. The SuperShuttle picked us up right at our campsite in Austin on December 20 at 4 pm. We arrived in Vancouver at 12:30 PST, after smooth clear flights from Austin to Phoenix and Phoenix to Vancouver. We only had 22 minutes between the flights and we were a few minutes late getting into Phoenix. We walked as fast as we could to get to our next gate, being picked up by a golf car partway along. We got on the plane out of breath (we...

Sep 6, 2008 - Sechelt, Surrey

We arrived at our cottage in Sechelt. There was some concern (not by Larry!) that we wouldn't fit through the gate but it was a piece of cake! The rig dwarfed the cottage but we still were able to fit three vehicles in the yard. Aaron arrived that night. Kelly was still on the mainland because his football draft ran late. We had a nice visit with Aaron and he helped by climbing onto the roof of the RV and trimming some big branches. Maureen and Aaron went paddling in the kayaks for a while. As you can see from the photos, there are SO many...

Sep 24, 2007 - Waiting to go South

Sechelt Maureen went to the cottage in Sechelt from Sept 18 to 21. It was a great time for a little puttering, a little gardening, a lot of walking (including the purchase of two new pairs of shoes) and some good eats. As you can see the weather on the 18th was a bit wild although most of it missed Sechelt and settled in Burnaby instead. Indian Wedding We attended Amy Gill's wedding on the 22nd. Amy is an employee of PCS. It was a traditional East Indian wedding and quite the learning experience. Maureen borrowed a suit and a saree from...
