Day 6 Merritt to Pritchard B.C. K’s 130.86 time 5h/50m Average speed: 22/H T to D 431.55 k’s What a super ride today. We rode out of Merritt on highway 5B instead of the main road. This is a super senic route that runs along a number of lakes, past the Douglas Lake cut off where one of Canada's largest ranches is located. They run around 8000 cows on that spread which I have visited a couple of times back in my work days. This route also offer us the opportunity of saving 11 k and missing the hills around Kamloops so we took that short...

Jun 26, 2008 - 06 Pritchard BC

Yesterday's climb over the Coquihalla Pass brought us into a different climate zone. We are now on the inland side of the coastal mountains and away from the rain forest. The land is dry; irrigation makes it green. This is dry ranching territory. The route today included an optional Kamloops bypass over a gravel road. There were cattle guards to keep the cows in at various points. Cars can cross these easily; cattle can't; bicycles need to be walked. It was a scenic trip with great tailwinds.
