Pedder Bay is a snug little cove and a great place to hole up for a few days. Most of the RVers here are fishers, but sadly for them, the fish just aren't biting right now. The record sockeye run that was still happening when we left Steveston a few days ago is not occurring here. But the fishers keep going out anyway, and a few are catching halibut and rock cod. Those in the know expect a run of spring salmon soon, but nature has an endearing way of keeping to her own schedule, so who knows exactly when. We content ourselves with just...

Sep 10, 2010 - Day Two: Sightseeing

This trip will not be marked by long days and impressive mileage. We probably only went about 50 miles today, but saw a lot of neat stuff. We start the day with a slightly vigorous hike in Goldstream Park, where Salsa, wildly enthusiastic, leads us through the forest and past some amazing Douglas Fir -- ancient and majestic, maybe 300 years old, perhaps more -- down a slope and along the creek.
