Sep 2, 2017 - Parksville

Of course we had to spend the day at the beach in Parksville (and wifi at Starbucks). It was the weekend and everyone was there. It was fun to watch all the families enjoying a perfect weather day 28c.The tide was out and we didn't even walk all the way to the water but we certainly were flooded with wonderful memories of walking there with Nellie.

Aug 31, 2016 - Campbell River to Parksville, BC

August 31, 2016 Had to put our sunglasses on for a walk into Campbell River along the waterfront. Rotary provided a very nice walkway along the water (Discovery Passage)with interpretive signs. There are some nice places to sit in a parklike setting with picnic tables. I particularly enjoyed the First Nation cemetery. Sam Henderson, a native totem carver, left an artistic legacy of cultural traditions that has been carried out by his family. Left camp about 11:00 for Qualicum Beach and Parksville, two very popular seaside villages on the...

Jun 25, 2016 - Home

We are home safely. We were up sharply this morning and after breakfast drained the tanks and packed up. We drove to east of Edson and stopped in a rest area where we had lunch. We continued on to close to Edmonton and stopped for diesel and some fresh air then continued on. We hit heavy traffic caused by three policecars spreadeagled across the road with one car stopped on the shoulder. It seemed a totally unnecessary impediment. We continued on and arrived at the Storage area where we discovered the trailer that has been beside us was...

Jun 25, 2016 - Hinton

Well, our last full day. It had rained during the night, but the sun was shining when we got up. After breakfast Christine did some housework and I tried to update the journal, but the WiFi here is so poor I gave up and went into Hinton, thinking I could connect at Starbucks, but it was inside the Safeway with no Internet. I went into the adjacent mall and found a good connection. I got the journal updated and checked the news then returned to the trailer. Christine had had lunch as she expected me to get a snack at Starbucks, but I did...

Jun 24, 2016 - Back to Alberta

It had rained throughout the night, but we managed to break camp without getting wet. We drove north through Valemont and stopped past Tete Jaun Cache for lunch. It rained off and on all day. We arrived at the KOA Campground in Hinton in the rain, but by the time we got to the campsite, the rain had gone off and again we were able to do all the outside work without getting wet. We had dinner and were just about to go for a walk when the rain came on again. It soon went off and we had our walk, but we cut it short as it threatened to rain...

Jun 23, 2016 - Meeting David & Dawn and on to Clearwater

We woke to rain, but by the time we had breakfast it had gone off and we were able to pack up without getting wet, though the ground was soaking. The rain started just as we left, but by the time we went into Hope proper, it had gone off and we got diesel, again without getting wet. We drove over the Coquihalla through Kamloops with just the occasional threat of rain and stopped at a rest area south of Barriere where we had lunch. Gayle, the mother of our daughter-in-law, Dawn whom we visited in Victoria is quite ill and our son, David, and...

Jun 22, 2016 - Over the Seas to Hope

We were up early and packed up then set off for Nanaimo where we caught the ferry at Departure Bay. It was a smooth sail to Horseshoe Bay. We had lunch in the trailer before we disembarked. Twice we saw rainspots, but generally the weather was good with some sunshine. We were not far from the ferry terminal when we ran into traffic. It was stop and go for about an hour. We lost almost 40 minutes of travel time according to our GPS. We were sure there must be an accident or construction, but in fact it just seemed to be congestion. We...

Jun 21, 2016 - Last Day

We woke to sunshine again, but it grew more cloudy as the day progressed, though we had no rain. Christine was disappointed not to see the almost full moon which she had missed last night, it being full then, but obscured by the clouds. There was also no sunset tonight to further her disappointment. We went for a walk this morning and then had lunch. We went out to get diesel for the truck and get the truck washed. On the way back we stopped at the office to make some inquiries, then returned to the trailer where I read and Christine...

Jun 20, 2016 - Deep Bay

We woke to sunshine - at last! It turned out a lovely warm, sunny day. We had breakfast and prepared a picnic then set off up the Island to Deep Bay. This is a tiny fishing village with a marina where many pleasure boats are docked and seems to be a magnet for eagles and herons. We went to the dock and watched a few boats go out and others being worked on then drove round to the point which protects the harbour. After that we went in the opposite direction to the entrance to a campground where there is a beach and a small parking spot. We...

Jun 19, 2016 - Church & More Rain

It started off with rain again, but by the time we had breakfast and set off, the rain had eased and when we came out of Church it was dry. We came home and had lunch and I wrote letters then we watched the rain which had started a again. It dried up late in the afternoon and I managed to barbecue in sunshine. After dinner we had a walk and watched the sun go down as the Celebrity Infinity and Holland America's Zanndam headed for Alaska.

Jun 18, 2016 - Rain & Laundry

A really wet day. We got up and had breakfast then I dropped Christine at the laundry and went into Parksville to get a newspaper and replenish our drinking water. I returned and read a then picked Christine up after she had finished the laundry. After a late lunch Christine knitted and I read and did puzzles. I think it rained all day. Tomorrow we hope to go to Church and then see what the rest of the day brings
