Aug 5, 2018 - Capilano Suspension Bridge & Park

I am in the middle of a national 3-day holiday for Canadians and it is busy everywhere! I was thinking about going into Vancouver to the Pride Parade and festivities, but I heard that tens of thousands of people were expected downtown for that and just because, so I didn't go that direction. Instead, I took half and hour to get to this park that should have been 15 minutes away. Oh well. The first suspension bridge was built in 1889 by tying ropes around trees and stretching them across the canyon! I had to keep moving or lose my place in a...

Oct 26, 2017 - Mountain biking, white water rafting and on my way home

Started the day yesterday with a mountain bike ride. A lot easier than the north shore, but really a lot of fun. Then, yet another 5 hour van ride to Kampala. The traffic in Kampala is horrible. Finally got to the lodge and had dinner. Then went for a walk around the local area. Kampala is regarded as a safe city and I agree. This morning, another 5:30 am start to a place called Jinga for some white water rafting. Apparantly the rapids are graded from 1-7 in terms of difficulty and danger. We did 4 rapids, the hardest being a 5. It was a...

Oct 24, 2017 - Kibale national forest and boat trip

Started the day yesterday with a 4.5 hour trek through the jungle to see chimpanzees. Finally saw one so high in the tree that I couldn't really even see it. Then, my water pack leaked in my backpack and dripped all down my bum and legs. Just what I needed. Then after that trip, we took a boat along a channel that connects a lake in Uganda to one in the Congo. That trip was very worthwhile. Saw a herd of elephants, pod of Hippos, crocodiles, all kinds of birds etc. Then, slept overnight in the same place as the night before. Today, went on...

Oct 22, 2017 - Report from Uganda

I have been away from the internet for a couple of days. I am in a remote mountain jungle Village near the Congo border. The past two days have been absolutely incredible. I don't even know how to explain it. Today we went on a gorilla Trek and tomorrow we go looking for chimpanzees and then on a boat cruise looking for hippos and everything else. Africa is absolutely amazing and Uganda his so cool. We started the day by trekking Through the Jungle with walking sticks and a guide using a machete to clear the trail. We were literally 8 to 10...

Oct 20, 2017 - Made it to uganda

Made it to Entebbe Uganda after a few tense moments. Arrived at 4 am and could'nt find the guy that was supposed to meet me. Irony is that I left Israel, arrived in Africa and my guide was named MOSES. anyway, I thought I would take a cab to the hotel instead, but had no money. My ATM card didn't work in all three ATMs at the airport. Finally, I chose a different account and got some money and found the driver. Arrived at the hotel, crashed into bed and slept for 4 hours. Then, I was informed that in fact, I am moving to Kampala at 11 am....

Oct 17, 2017 - Haifa

Took the train from Netanya to Haifa, again on the coast, but further north. Found a little room, more like a BnB, in a really cool area. Went out to a bar/restaurant with a live band. It was a carivore heaven. I had smoked lamb which was something I had never had. It was just two ribs on a plate without any other stuff. So I ordered a beer and watched the band, but I left when they started playing "mustang sally". LOL. Here is a pic of the lunch I had. Unlike the dinner, they kept bringing more and more food. Just when I thought I was...

Oct 12, 2017 - Jerusalem to galilee

Spent last night at my cousin's place just outside of Jerusalem. It is an Orthodox Jewish settlement and everything shut down totally for the holiday. We had an incredible dinner that my two cousins wife's cooked and then sat and talked for hours. Today my friend Mike picked me up and we drove all the way from my cousin's house to where he lives high on a mountain in Galilee. On the way we passed through a couple of Arab Villages where we stopped and then when we got to his place had a beer and looked out overlooking the Vista. He has a...

Oct 11, 2017 - Made it to the land of my people...

No. Not Las Vegas. Israel. Had a few stressful times as a flight delay caused me to miss my connection. Finally, got on a midnight flight to Israel and landed at 2:30 am. I didn't know where to go so I just got a cab and asked him to take me to a reasonably priced hotel so I could just sleep for a few hours. $150 cab ride and $230 hotel stay later and I slept for 7 hours. Now, my cousin is on his way to pick me up for holiday dinner at his place. It is a national holiday today and everything will be closed after 1:30 until tomorrow night.

Nov 18, 2009 - Lighthouse Park

Despite the rain we headed over the other side of the inlet to West Vancouver finally ending up at the Lighthouse Park at Port Atkinson. The park contains the last stand of old growth forest in the area. The park is also the location of the Point Atkinson Lighthouse which was built in 1912 and is the first of three lighthouses serving the Port of Vancouver. It was quite a strenuous walk to the lighthouse from the car park, but it was worth it to get great views of the bay. It would be spectacular in the sunshine!

Oct 15, 2009 - North Vancouver: repos
