Kitimat is only 60 km from Terrace so I just went down for the day. The town has an amazing story & although the weather wasn’t very kind, it was still a good day. In the 1950s, the BC Government wanted to develop the resources of the sparsely populated north-west area of the province so they negotiated with Alcan to build an aluminium smelter here in Kitimat which has deep-water access through the Douglas Channel to the Pacific. Dec 2, 2008 - Kitimat - Never a dull moment

KITMAT, BC - WEDNESDAY 3RD DECEMBER KITIMAT - DAY 1 For our first day of activities in Kitimat, Richard had organised for a couple of his mates to take us out ATVing, or quadbiking as we call it in Oz. Duey and Marbles arrived at 10 and loaded Richard’s ATV into the trailer and we were off. We drove a short while out of town, past the Alcan Smelter and Pulp mill, and came to a small dirt car park at the head of a couple of trails.
