Aug 21, 2015 - Keremeos, British Columbia, Canada

Saturday, August 15, 2015 – As we were driving toward Prince Rupert people in an RV behind us passed us and then flagged us down. They report that we had a wobbly right rear tire on the Bigfoot. Since we had the axle problem in Fort Nelson at the start of this trip, we were paranoid. We drove slowly on to the next town watching for smoke and stopping at each rest stop to feel the hub for heat. Being Saturday we had quite a time finding a mechanic shop open. The visitor center at New Hazelton directed us to a mechanic shop just outside of...

Aug 28, 2010 - Fraser Lake to Keremos

Thursday, Aug. 26 Drove to Vernon, BC. Located in the Okanogan Valley. The Okanogan valley is BC’s fruit and vegetable growing area. We spent the night at Costco. Friday, Aug. 27 Drove from Vernon to Keremeos to visit with friends, Marilyn and Dave. They have a nice condo located at the foot of a cliff and with mountains all around. One mountain that faces their front door has a large “K” on it that was created by some land slides. There was a forest fire just down the road on another mountain with helicopters dropping water on it. We...

May 19, 2010 - Vine Times

I`m leaving the vineyard after the weekend after some friends come to visit. We're taking a horse ride, a nature walk, a swim in Canada's warmest lake and perhaps even a rodeo. I have no idea where I`m going or what I'm doing afterwards so my next update will be a bit more exact when I discover where I am. Planned TV programme of the Day: Sir Attenborough vs. - a series allowing respected knight of the British Empire, Sir David Attenborough to use his 80 year accumulated animal knowledge to grapple with nature - to the death. First...

May 15, 2010 - Excuses

Excuses for not doing the blog. I have some previous entries to finish and some photos to show. My excuses for not doing the blog are I saw a bear, I saw a beaver, I've been going with the flow on the river, I've been having campfires and enjoying 29 degrees centigrade temperatures and air conditioning, I've had some crazy conversations with my boss and I'm booked to ride a Canadian native's horse. Also, its my last week of being here and the Toronto Bluejays are being shown free on TV each evening as a promotion. We also have two...

May 10, 2010 - Bear with me

On Sunday Connor, Raymond and I - the two volunteers who share the lodge - borrowed the boat from our boss who also gave us a quick ride to Chopaka bridge a few miles upstream to put in. He was very stoned and has in fact started giving us 'Canadian tobacco' as beer is too expensive. Carl joint us in the car, one of our bosses friends and he was also very very stoned and was bare-chested. Like Randy from Trailer Park Boys. Only stoned. A permanent state it seems which seems to suit him as he has an aurora of being a permanent one man...

May 6, 2010 - Burning Things

Still on the vineyard and I'm tasked with jobs I do on my tod. Things that generally involve trimming hedges, cutting between the vines and burning weeds with a propane torch. All good harmless fun. My boss, not wanting to ignite myself or blind myself has equipped me with some bulky safety gear. My favourite piece being the helmet which would perhaps be more appropriately worn when firing a Deathstar. I also had a couple of days of change with planting squash and joint the now eight other volunteers (three Germans, two Chileans, one...

May 1, 2010 - Fur is a flying???

. A windy Saturday morning and all is well..the dogs are getting along??..as far as we can tell..don't know if they really like each other but they seem to be tolerating Tucker being in corral with them so all is well!! Our day was spent not really doing much of anything...we went for a drive and took just a few photos..Doug is so tolerant of my "STOP HERE"..such a good husband..letting me take all the pictures of anything I though would be 'trip journal" worthy... All in all a good day...a picture is worth a thousand words so I will let...

Apr 30, 2010 - Keremeos bound

. After a long hard winter..and some planning and organizing we are headed to Keremeos, B.C...it is a small town about 338 kilometers east of our home in Coquitlam and home to Doug's brother and his wife. They have lived in Keremeos since February 1999..and ever since they moved there our plan is for this small, windy town to be our home in 2014. Keremeos is the 'fruit stand capital of Canada...not at this time of year though..all the stands are boarded up waiting for the fruit to be ready. Keremeos was originally inhabited by the Salish...

Apr 26, 2010 - Budburst

Very little has changed again. I`m still on the vineyard and I've been doing some paid work on the vineyard, stalking marmots and forgetting my camera when managing to get close enough to get a photo and also planning my charge across Canada in August. I've also realised I have a strange phobia which I'm surprised about. Fairy lights on old shacks in a desert setting. Its a little specific but there's probably a term for it. Maybe, its because they look so out of place or very dreamlike but the last couple of evenings there's been a clear...

Apr 18, 2010 - Horse Hot Campervan

Some photos taken recently. Billy and Julie left today but beforehand I hitched a lift into Osoyoos with them so we could all share apple pie and some junk food at A&W for Julie's 21st birthday. My gift to Julie was the pie however, after finding a big bag of weed in a half built farmhouse on one of my evening wanders I moved it to another window sill and left the house. Coming back to it a week later it was still exactly where I moved it to and a child's plastic farm animal I had found and put behind the door was in exactly the same place...
