May 26, 2011 - Sea to Sky Highway (CAN 99)

After crossing into Canada we drove on Trans-Continental Canada 1 from Abbotsford to Vancouver then on to the "Sea to Sky Highway" or Canada 99 for the 150 mile drive north through Squamish and Whistler (site of 2010 Winter Olympics) to Nairn Falls Provincial Park for a two night stay. This drive was absolutely beautiful going by the inside passage on the left and the towering snow capped mountains along the way.

Sep 22, 2007 - Harvey Struggles - Hwy 99 (Sea-to-Sky)

We pay attention to the warning signs - mushy brakes - and avoid becoming a statistic at the bottom of a thirteen mile winding 13% hill. When old brake fluid sufficiently overheats, it boils! This means it foams, and that means it stops performing at its hydraulic best. So, even though I have religiously used lower gears for long steep hills and slower speeds and judicious braking practices, this hill won.
