Aug 21, 2019 - Destination Prince George

Today journey is a little longer, we traveled 297.9 miles for 5.75 hours which included a stop for fuel in Smithers and in Fraser Lake for lunch (see the red dots on the map). It began as a rainy morning, as we took Daisy for a quick walk and said goodbye to Steve & Carol, who were heading west to Prince Rupert. It became sunny & windy the rest of the trip. There were several slow spots due to construction or getting behind a slow truck hauling large equipment (who didn't pull over to allow others to pass). The first sign of civilization...

Jun 22, 2017 - Mama bear with triplets

Mom says this is starting to sound like Greatgrandpa Hancock with weather updates and breakfast from Arizona. What can you add new when you're enjoying yourself so well, today we had a long walk and got to play ball before we ever loaded up the truck and left camp. Great pancakes and sausage for breakfast. Out of camp we saw a mama black bear and three bear cubs. In Houston we saw the world's largest fly fishing pole that would be used to catch a 200 lb steelhead. Took a short hike then Mom and Dad decided it was time to sit in the Sun so...

Jul 18, 2016 - Fort Fraser / Fraser Lake July 18 - 20

At this rate it will be a long time before we hit Prince Rupert!! Our drive today was only 2 1/2 hours max. After stopping a few times we arrived just after noon. Discovered this was one of the camping spots we both remembered from our previous trip thru here about a dozen years ago. Still love the place. After setting up Ed proceeded to set up the satellite dish again, this time he was sure he knew the trick to getting it aligned in record time......Nope...not even close. An hour and half later he had his victory drink. We need to find...

Aug 6, 2009 - Fraser Lake, BC

We packed up and left Quesnel this morning, stopped for fuel in Prince George and got onto Canada Rt 16, the Yellowhead Highway west. The fellow who dispensed the fuel also washed our windshield! It felt like a real blast from the past. I had a picture of the smiling Texaco serviceman from ads in the fifties. Double-trailer semis loaded higher than the cab with logs are among the multitude of trucks moving commerce from place to place. Fifty-seven miles down the road we passed through Vanderhoof, the geographical center of British Columbia...

Jul 26, 2006 - Fraser Lake, B.C. - Orange Valley Campground

Happy Birthday to Chris Potts - 26 years old/young. Still raining when we arose, so we packed up, dumped and were on the road by 8:30. Drove 320 miles today - trying to get to Vancouver by Saturday so we can meet up with Ray and Deb Hunsberger. Only about 650 to go. We finished the Cassiar Highway and started south on the Yellowhead (just imagine Bob's version of that name) Highway toward Prince George, B.C.. The ride was great because the road was so nice - could go between 55 and 65 mph - a first in more than a month. The scenery was...
