Sep 1, 2018 - Home

August 30th We have come full circle on our trip. It is cold enough this morning, there is frost on the van and we need the heater for the first time since we had it fixed. It is a gorgeous clear day as we make our way along hwy 3 then hwy 1 heading for the Ferry Terminal and home. Traffic builds as we get closer to Vancouver. It is a busy day at the terminal and we have a one sailing wait having just missed the 2 pm ferry. We start to take stock of some of the milestones we achieved (notorious and otherwise) from this amazing trip. Here...

Jul 30, 2017 - Vancouver island

We took the 12:45 ferry to Victoria- definitely make reservations or you may sit in line for hours for the next one. The weather was perfectly clear so we could see Mt. Baker, the Olympic peninsula and British Columbia on the way.We landed in Victoria about 2:15 and decided to head on to Duncan. We found the Riverside cg outside of downtown Duncan right on the Cowichan river. We bought 2 small pink salmon at the local Superstore and had them with fresh corn, raspberries and cherries.

Aug 31, 2012 - Raptor show

Aug. 31, 2012 We loaded up and started back down the coast. It is really lovely and is growing pretty rapidly. Many people come from other parts of the British Commonwealth, as well as from other provinces in Canada to live here. We noticed one rv park that actually sells the sites to those who are full-timers. Not cheap either! Then we stopped at Duncan for the raptors. There were eagles, hawks, falcons, owls, ravens, vultures, and two kookaburras. These are either birds that have been injured and can't fly, or they are working birds,...

Jul 8, 2010 - Duncan: Home of the Family Triathletes

Some of you might remember a log entry back in 2006 from Bridgeport, CT where we stopped to watch my cousin Steve's 13 year old daughter dominate the US Elite Junior National Triathlon Championships. Well, it four years later and this young lady is now a multi national Sprint Triathlon champion, will be representing Canada at the Jr. Olympics in Singapore this August and then immediately after that will represent Canada at the World Sprint Triathlon Championships in Budapest. Her younger sister is now 10 and is tearing up the age group...

On the Road to Kona

Nov 2, 2008 - Nanaimo - Duncan

Today we started out by stopping at a nearby Tim Hortons to pick up a coffee and then drove into Nanaimo to stop at the Visitor Centre which we learned was closed on Sunday’s. From there we went to the downtown wharf area where we stopped at the Nanaimo Fish Market to investigate the morning catch. We spotted a fishing boat that had a sign live crab $9 each and various other sea foods for sale. We purchased two live crabs and after the sales lady showed us how to clean them and gave us instructions on how to cook them we headed back to the...

Mar 3, 2008 - Going Full Term

So here it is the evening of March 3rd and the baby still hasn't arrived. March 4 was the original due date so I guess baby wasn't anxious to be early after all. Yesterday, John & I took the ferry from Twassessen to Victoria and then drove to Duncan to visit his Uncle Donald to help pass the time. His cousin Jody took us up to the hospital and luckily his cousin Leeanne and aunt June were at the hospital when we arrived so it was a great chance to renew acquaintances and share old memories with cousins not seen for many years. The ferry...

Aug 27, 2007 - Duncan, BC

We took the ferry to Vancouver Island to go see Kate, Dean, Grama, Gena, David and Philip. I can proudly say that I have now driven a 30ft fifth wheel onto a boat! We had a fun night with the family hanging out in Kate and Deans amazing back yard. A kids paradise; hot tub, fop eared rabbit, sea turtle and electric car! Nicole was in heaven and did not want to leave. My mom and Michael were there too and it was sure nice to see them :) Kate and Dean let us leave the rig, now officially called "Terry", at their house as we set out for our...
