Nov 12, 2013 - Day 14 - Relaxing in Deroche, BC

We had planned on heading out today but had not got to see Sabrina, Brian and Keith yet. We made arrangements to meet them for lunch on Wednesday. We used the day to go into Mission and get flu shots at the local Shoppers Drug Mart, mail Rose's birthday present, and a gift for Amanda for Christmas. Both should arrive in plenty of time, I hope.

Nov 11, 2013 - Day 13 - in Deroche, BC

Started the day with doing laundry at Sue's. Part way through the first load the washer died. I gathered up the wet clothes and took them over to MArie's to try out her new machine. She just moved in a couple days before we got here so has not even used it yet. I give her some instruction on these frontloading machines as Tracy has them at home and Marie has never used them. Hers are a small stacked version but work very well. Garry worked on Sue's machine and fixed it but it did not last a load. Garry and Marie headed out to find photo ops...

Nov 10, 2013 - Day 12 - Exploring around Deroche

Today we drove to Weaver Creek Spawning Channels. These are man-made creek channels zig zagging over several acres providing the proper environment for salmon to spawn then die in the fall. Marie and Sue were here about three weeks ago and the channels were red with fish. Today we see a few in the channels, lots of dead ones, but more in the river running alongside the channels area. It is an amazing site to see the fish splashing in barely enough water to cover themselves. We continued on to the Sandpoint Resort and Golf Course and stopped...

Nov 6, 2013 - Day 8 - Relaxing in Deroche, BC

Sue has an infection that is going to keep her home all week so lots of card games with Marie to be played. We headed into Mission to get the bus stocked with groceries, particularly the stuff we can't get in the USA, like good jam, Becel margarine, and Cheez Whiz. They have Cheez Whiz but it is not the same. We played cards most of the afternoon and as we started cooking supper the power went out. We finished the cooking out in the bus, then had dinner by candlelight in Sue's. Afterwards we started up the generator in the bus and played...

Apr 2, 2013 - Day 260 - Trip paused due to family emergency.

We received a call from Sandra at 4:30 AM, 6:30 AM in Brandon, telling us that the hospital had moved Mother to ICU because test results showed that she had had a heart attach probably a couple of weeks ago. Sandra said the doctor told her to get the family there as quickly as possible. We were packed and on the road by 7:00 AM, leaving the bus at Sue's as the weather was too unpredictable, and the bus too slow to take it. We travelled straight through and arrived in Brandon at 7:00 AM Central time, 2000 km in 22 hours. We went straight to...

Mar 26, 2013 - Day 253 - Gig Harbor, Wash to Deroche, BC

We headed for the border today. We made sure to fill both the bus and the car in Bellingham. We had lunch in Everson, Washington at Cafe 544 and then headed for the border crossing. We discovered that we had to pay GST on all non-emergency repairs we had done while in the USA. This cost us $64.00. We were also told that they could tax us at 130% cost for all overlimit alcohol in the bus, but they didn't, didn't even check to see what we had. Dodged that one this time. We arrived at Sue's in Deroche about 3:15pm and got supper ready for when...
