Sep 13, 2017 - Coombs

Coombs was just a day trip but we were so glad we went out of our way to stop.. We were told we needed to go there to see the goats who live on the sod roof, but there was so much more. It was a charming little village lined with interesting shops, including local produce and a great market that I could have wandered around in for a long time. But we had places to go and things to do so we were soon off and running.

2017 fall road trip

Mar 11, 2016 - Oceanside Scenic Drive

We drove the exciting Oceanside Scenic Route today, it was beautiful. This one tells you to follow the starfish! The starfish is posted on signs to show you the way along Vancouver Island's scenic Oceanside Route, Highway 19A. We had already visited the Parkville area, we started our tour at Qualicum Beach, we stopped along the way checking out most of the campgrounds. This area is outstanding, where views stretch across sandy beaches, the Strait of Georgia and beyond. Mid-route, the Comox Valley spreads below the glistening Comox Glacier,...

Aug 29, 2012 - Up island

Aug. 29, 2012 Rhonda had told us about a fossil tour from the paleontological museum in Courtney. And since we wanted to see more of the island, we packed up and took off north, up island. On the way we saw some of the famous murals at Chemainus, a lovely little tourist town. Also, we were rained on for the first time. About the time it stopped, we stopped for lunch on the beach at Nanaimo. We found a camp spot for two days, which is hard to find this week since it is the last before school starts in BC. The drive up took us twice as long...

Summer Trip 2012

Sep 12, 2010 - Over and out

Well my friends we have made the circle complete as we are now parked in our home back in Comox. After 14,900 miles and 5 and a half months we have come full circle. What a relief and what elation to have experienced what we have been through on our journey. Did a quick tally and we took over 2000 pixs and a bunch of video for future enjoyment and memories. We actually pulled it off a bit cheaper than we planned so that is a good thing, can spend it on the new bike i have to go to Edmonton and pick up on Tuesday lol. Lots of new things we...

Nascar Adventure

Jul 4, 2010 - We are on our way Comox - Duke Point - Tsawwassen

We travelled on the 8:10 am Ferry to Comox this morning to go to Surrey.... why did we go that way you may ask? Shawn nor I have never gone that route before, so we figured it would be something new, different and hopefully adventureous. Once we got off the Comox Ferry we travelled down to Superstore gas and filled the truck up, Shawn stayed with the kids as I ran into Superstore to get Andrew his baby food, bigger pull ups and some fresh fruit for our trip to Nanaimo, Duke Point to be exact. We arrived at Duke Point at 12:15 pm for the...

Nov 23, 2009 - Airport and home

Hi, Today is the day I was not looking forward too. Angela, Scott, Anika, and Brody were heading to the Comox airport to catch their flight back home to Ontario. We got one last photo before they boarded the plane. I cried once again – just like when Tanya and Bailey left. It was hard to say goodbye. Angela figured it was our fault….her theory….. We move to Ontario when they are kids, wait for them to grow up and have families, then we pull up stakes, buy a trailer and head (home) west back to BC, leaving the kids and grandkids behind. She...

Sep 12, 2009 - Broughtons, Desolation Sound and Comox

We were lucky enough to hook up with our friends Stephanie and David (and Sally) on s/v Cambria for about a week. We all moved along to change up our backyard when we got bored. The Cambrians did a fine job choosing a few nice destinations with fresh water lakes and a nice hike in another. It is always more fun to spend time on the hook with dear friends. Before we parted ways, they even let us borrow lots of DVD’s for our evening entertainment. So here’s a rundown of where we’ve been hanging out…Rosemary Spit on Quadra Island, Von Donop...

Tales of Blue Aweigh

Sep 10, 2007 - Vancouver Island

We arrived, via ferry, on Vancouver Island last night. We are camping the first week of our time here at the Canadian Air Base on the island. Our campsite is right on The Strait of Georgia ... woke up to sun coming over the mountains and the water. Weather is the best it has been all summer ... in the high 70's (F) yesterday and today, with reports that it will be nice for the rest of the week. Brett Favre made the front page in the papers here today ... with his record tying win yesterday. Wish we could have seen the game. Enjoy the...

Summer '07

Mar 12, 2007 - Courtney / Comox

What can I say? I love the island. Got to see my sis. Got to meet this Dougal character. He seems alright. Got to golf when I should be wearing a snow suit and I did it all in the same day that I was snowboarding. How cool is that? Words cant describe how good it feels to be in Canada. Nor can they describe how utterly exhausted I am. I have never been so many things at one time. Happy, sad, wired, exhausted, proud, apprehensive, relieved, anxious. Everything all at once. Canada truly is the base country in the world. If feels so good to be...

May 12, 2006 - To the spa first!

We checked in at 3pm and headed straight to our first body treatment: the Pacific Mist Hydropath at 3:15pm. According to the spa information on the Kingfisher Spa website, "This experience offers the many benefits of hydrotherapy including remineralization, detoxification, relaxation and more in a setting that evokes the island's natural seaside elements." We all absolutely loved it! You experience a series of 8 water treatments, including waterfalls of varying pressure and spray, a steam cave smelling of eucalyptus, a glacier waterfall on...
