Oct 3, 2019 - We Begin.

We were up early and on the road by 5a hoping to catch the 8.30a ferry from Nanaimo to Vancouver. We caught the 7.45a from Duke Point with loads of time to spare. By Noon we were having lunch in sunny Chilliwack. We spent the afternoon visiting with Audree. It was so nice to see her after all this time. We picked up Chinese food....delicious. After dinner we went to see Gord's cousins, Bill and Janice Balakshin. They run a 'Shower to Shower'....a night's stay...free...mostly for bicyclers...those going tip to tip in North America to South...

Oct 10, 2018 - On to British Columbia

Wednesday, October 10: Leavenworth, WA → Chilliwack, B.C. Weather: low 50sF and cloudy, low 60s and partly sunny Route: Leavenworth KOA → US-2W → I-5N → WA-542E → WA-9N → US-Canada Border → BC-11 → TransCanada Highway 1E → Chilliwack Highlights: - Hubby was awake again today at 6:30 before dawn. While he boiled water for the oatmeal and sliced the peach we bought in Mary Hill yesterday I packed up the bed linens and wrangled our belongings into their proper places in the car. The addition of the perfectly ripe, juicy peach in the oatmeal...

Oct 9, 2017 - Jasper to Chilliwack

The train continued to get further behind schedule overnight so at breakfast we were greeted with the news that they didn’t expect to get to Vancouver until 4:00 – 5:00 pm this evening instead of 9:00am this morning, so about 9 hours late. One major advantage of running so late was that we got to see the scenery along the Thompson & Fraser River gorges which would have been done in the dark if we’d been on time. It was worth it. Because I’d planned to rent a car in Vancouver & drive to spend the evening with Mike & Judi in Rosedale &...

May 27, 2016 - A Wet Journey to Chilliwack

We rose to a wet day. Alas, our wish to break camp in dryness was not met and we got quite wet by the time we were ready to leave. We drove the TransCanada Highway mainly in rain. As we came to Kamloops where we refuelled, it was dry, but we ran in and out of rain as we proceeded to the Coquihalla Highway. We stopped at the top and had lunch in the trailer. This is a favourite place for us to stop, but is tinged with sadness as we recall the many times we have walked our pet dog here. Though it is 6 years since we lost Kostis, this place...

Nov 14, 2015 - We've arrived

After getting up well before the crack of dawn, surviving a taxi ride in the rain and a four and a half hour flight we arrived safe and sound in PV at 4:05, local time, this afternoon. After going to the hotel and finding out that our rent has gone up a hundred dollars a month, we got into our temporary apartment, (we'll move into our regular apartment on Dec 1), only to find that it leaves a little to be desired. Oh well, not to complain too much. It's still the cheapest apartment in this part of town. The temperature when we landed was...

Nov 11, 2015 - November 11

A day to remember Canada's veterans and fallen heroes. We made it to 11:30, then the skies opened up. I felt sorry for the participants, (veterans, cadets, RCMP). At least I had an umbrella, they had to stand there and get soaked. Have I mentioned that we only have three more sleeps?

Jul 12, 2015 - Chez mononcle Frank, Chilliwack BC

Jun 5, 2012 - Chilliwack, BC

June 4 On my last entry, I meant to add that on our way to Chilliwack, we saw a brown bear along the road – our first bear sighting. I didn’t take his picture though. We were past him before I could get my camera out and there was no place to stop and go back. We had a successful day today. We left our trailer at the welding shop to have a high lift axle installed. This raises our trailer two inches and will aid in towing the fifth wheel. After that, we took our trailer to the Escape factory where Reace was expecting us. He worked on the...

Jul 30, 2011 - Picking up the Trailer!!!!

We were introduced and instructed from 9 to 5 and then did errands to help us organize. A VERY LONG and tiring day - very exciting... Still not believing it is really ours. Retirement is weird and still a little sad right now... Owning this trailer is VERY WEIRD.... We are excited about learning how to care for it and use it and about traveling to beautiful places and beautiful people. Off to nearby Provincial Park Saturday AM for a couple of nights.

Aug 15, 2010 - Summer 2010/Home from Alaska - Travel (Chilliwack, BC)

Sunday, August 15, 2010 Up again at 7:00 AM and on the road by 7:30 AM – getting away from a Wal-Mart boondock spot is quick and easy. We noticed that the Johns had already left. We had planned to go into the Wal-Mart to the McDonalds for breakfast and Marty’s coffee but found the store did not open until 8:00 AM. Just a short way down the road, we had another morning bear spotting. Up ahead, a large black bear crossed the road from right to left in front of us. This time Gary had plenty of time to slow but the bear had gone deep into the...

Jul 6, 2010 - Chilliwack, B.C.

Arrived here about 1:00 PM - only 160 mile drive but it was slow with the up and down grades. We are staying at the "Camper Land RV Resort" - nice place weather is forecasted at high 70's all week, we had to put the AC on this afternoon and discovered the from AC isn't working, looks like a job for Graeme, suspect starter capacitor is defective. Did a big shopping in town today fridge was empty, stuff is expensive compared to US prices. More later
