Jul 4, 2015 - Broken Group Kayak Trip

Also not very recent, in July I did a week long kayak trip to the Broken Group islands off the west coast of Vancouver Island. We did it through the University of Calgary Outdoor Centre, so they provided the kayaks and equipment and a guide, we provided our own camping equipment and food. We ended up camping on three different islands over the 5 days, which we spelled out using our bodies. Fortunately the islands with the longer names had more campers also spending the night! We had really good weather, and overall a great time.

Aug 2, 2013 - Bamfield

This morning we drove up to Bamfield over a gravel rock logging road, a means to an end. Brother Jim seems weaker than last week, and more trouble breathing. Carol is staying with him and that makes me feel better, having her there at night and to help him out. I didn't want to leave the island and him alone. he has a great network friends but it's nice t have somebody in the house with him

Aug 12, 2006 - Aboard The M.v. Frances Barkley To Bamfield

First off, we were scheduled for the Lady Rose cruise but she had a prior booking for a wedding party so the stately Frances Barkley, a stout packet freighter, was our "ride" for the day. Built in 1958, she has an overall length of 128 feet, a beam of 24 ft. and a draft of 9.5 ft. and can carry as many as 200 passengers and 100 tons of cargo. We figured there were 60 people onboard for our trip and quite a bit of cargo including barrels of fuel, lumber, groceries, mail and a huge gangplank most probably being used for someone's dock to...
