Jan 1, 2005 - Kom Pot - Sihanoukville, Cambodia

A room for 5, Mari & Jake on a dbl bed, Bon, Todd, & Tim on mats on the floor...shared bath(cold showers) but it has a fan!...$3 US total! Now here for 4 nites and have seen the major increase in tourism, especially along the beaches! We tried snorkelling off the beach but it was very poor, visibilty only 1 meter or so...yesterday we went on a hired boat tour which took us to 3 different islands with the same result, poor visibility and not much to look at anyway. In one location the corals were mostly dead(we heard that after the VN war...

Dec 25, 2004 - Phu Quoc Isl., TT Duong Dong(town on W. side of isl.)

Arrived here in 2 1/2 hrs. from Rach Gia at 11:00 am and faced a multitude of drivers who tried to get us to pay up to 50,000 d. ea. to get to our hotel where we had reservations. Luckily we found 5 other whiteys(2 Auseys 3 Swiss) and we got it down to 20,000 each($1.35 US). At the hotel we found no reservations and they tried to get us to take rooms for $5 US (we had been told the reservations were for 4 @ $15 with the possibility of adding another cot all in a single room). Since we made the decision based upon the cost of room and the...

Dec 4, 2004 - Sihanoukville

Yesterday I took a bus to Sihanoukville in Southwest Cambodia. Sihanoukville is basically a beach town and seemed like a good place to relax for a while. My guest house I directly across the street from the beach, which is a long white sand beach that goes on forever. There are little shacks / restaurants all along the beach and the inevitable kids trying to sell you stuff. Yesterday was mostly a get settled day and I spent it reading on the beach. Today I took a tour into Ream National Park, which is mostly water and a large mangrove...

Dec 2, 2004 - Phu Quoc Island

Nov 12, 2004 - Sihanoukville, south west Cambodia

Can't type for long as have too many mosquito bites to scratch. In south west Cambodia for the thin strip of beach that Sihanoukville has to offer. Not the greatest place we've visited so cutting this stop short and going back to Phnom Penh tomorrow to catch the bus down to Saigon. Until then can be found hiding in a mid-range air conditioned hotel room watching sky movies. Next stop Vietnam.

Oct 21, 2004 - Sihanouk Ville

I tillegg saa merkes Kambodsjas enorme fattighetsproblem. Over alt paa strendene er det mennesker som enten har noe og selge eller rett og slett bare tigger. Uansett har det vaert meget interessant og oppleve strandlivet i Kambodsja. Merkelig var det aa oppleve...

Oct 13, 2004 - SIHANOUKVILLE

The beach at last!! Four hours on a bus with piped Europop and Cambodian music and I've hit the Cambodian beach resort of Sihanoukville. It's still pretty ramshackle here and the only way to get around seems to be on the back of a moto (motorbike taxi), but its white sandy beaches. Apparently its a Cambodian national holiday at the moment so its pretty packed with locals, who incidentally seem to all go swimming fully clothed - whats that all about?? Maybe I should try it and save on the laundry costs?! Not sure about the tan lines...

Aug 17, 2004 - Sihanoukville

The bus left at lunchtime and was a pretty good bus with allocated seat numbers (first time we had seent hatf or a while, and makes life so much easier). It was a pretty short trip of about 5 hours, so we arrived in the late afternoon. We hired a couple of moto drivers to show uas some of the guest houses along the beach front area which was a couple of km's out of town. After having a look at a few, we settled on the maraka, nice clean place. We settled in and sat down for some drinks and a quick bite, it was pretty cloudy so walked over...
