Jun 18, 2017 - Last day in Sihanoukville, Cambodia and another boat trip...

On the recommendations of many that we have met, we booked a speed boat trip to the Island of Koh Rong Sanloem. Our guest house owner kindly booked our trip for today, with a pickup from the front of the guest house at 10am. Shortly after the arranged time, a truck with rows of stainless steel seats arrives, we climb aboard and hold on, after a couple of other pick ups we arrive at the pier, where we are checked in for our trip. Not long after, we board our speed boat for the 1/2 hour trip and as soon as we cleared the Pier, the driver...

Jun 16, 2017 - Bus Trip Phnom Penh to Sihanoukville

As part of our travel itinerary, and planning, we had originally planned to catch the train which is a recently re opened service from Phnom Penh to Sihanoukville, however due to the train timetable, which would not see us arrive till late at night, we decided to catch the train on the return journey and book the bus instead. Fortunately, on the street corner just near our Hostel, there happened to be a booking office for trips, tours and all travel arrangements. We discussed with the man what we wanted and discussed the safest bus company....

Jan 10, 2016 - Snooker-you-ville, er, ah, Sihanoukville

We sure did seem to be accumulating lousy travel stories in SE Asia. Ke put us on the bus (yes, BUS this time--no more boats for me) to the coast, which required a change of buses in Phnom Penh. With hindsight being 20-20, I'd have done the Cambodian trip quite differently by staying in Phnom Penh (PP) at that point and then carrying on down the coast to Vietnam. BUT, that didn't happen. Instead, we boarded our bus on a random street corner in Battambang at 7:30 (it was supposed to leave at 7:00) and it took soooo long to get to PP that we...

Apr 4, 2015 - Sihanoukville Cambodia

Sihanoukville is the major resort town of Cambodia. Once the haven of backpackers it is rapidly becoming a major cruise and world- wide holiday destination. It has miles of beautiful white sand beaches, warm waters and few people. The town has a huge central market that has everything from clothes to household goods. The great adventure here as in all of Southeast Asia is the Tuk Tuk ride. There are no rules of the road for the motor bikes and tuk tuks. Our tuk tuk was pulled by a small motor bike and driven by a driver who stayed waiting...

Jan 22, 2014 - Dia 13.

Jan 21, 2014 - Dia 12. Alojamiento Familiar en Can Tho.

Jun 18, 2013 - Taking it easy in Sihanouk Ville

Hi friends and family. For a change, I slept like a log and didn’t wake up till 7.30. That’s really good, even when at home. Once out and about after breakfast, I had it in mind, as I think I said yesterday, to take a day trip into Ream National Park. Although the weather god was back in my good books, I thought that as I am only here for one full day, I should try and see some of the town. The hotel got me a tuk tuk and I was off on a leisurely tour. The driver said his name was Rambo but I am taking that with a pinch of salt! This place...

Jun 17, 2013 - Quiet day - Kampot to Sihanouk Ville

Hi folks. Welcome to today’s episode. To be honest, by comparison, it has been a quiet day. Not a good sleep night and I got up at 5.30, still feeling tired, but it was best foot forward and into the shower. Feeling more refreshed, I did a bit of packing and sorted my paperwork for the day ahead. The hotel had booked a taxi for me to take me the 105 km from Kampot to Sihanouk Ville but it wasn’t due until 11.00. Plenty of time for breakfast! I am cutting down on food now ;) otherwise I shall be putting on weight. I had omelette and bacon...

May 17, 2013 - The beach

Went to the beach for one night Worth the four hour bus ride. It was a good, if quick, respite from the city. Cool breeze, one crazy rain storm, good sunning weather this AM. Nothin' like a topless back rub on the beach with the sound of the ocean and Zac Brown blaring in your ears. The peddlers were relentless, pushy, and untrustworthy. Made you wanna hide out in the hotel after a couple hours of harassment. We are on the tail end! Back in the capital and just booked our posh hotel in Bangkok for the last two nights of our SE Asia tour!

Apr 7, 2013 - Sihanoukville, Cambodia

Sihanoukville Cambodia is a contrast between beautiful beach resorts with stunning white sand beaches and the simple rustic life of most of the locals not involved with the tourist industry. We visited the small rural village (I use the term “village” very loosely here!) of Puthuong, which had 500 or so residents scattered about the rice paddies and forest. The simple homes had no electricity or plumbing. They cooked over wood or coal in a very simple kitchen about the size of a closet in the States. The windows were mostly left over...
