Apr 26, 2013 - Left Bahamas, back in US

We have definitely been on the move! We ended up staying in Lucaya for a few days because we were enjoying ourselves. We found a great restaurant (with early bird specials until 6:30 pm), so we would take a drink up there and have dinner. The last night there, a Canadian couple, Marianne and Paul (Know-Ha-Gan) whom we had met at Royal Island joined us. We left Lucyaa and went to West End in preparation for our crossing to the US. Besides having J&B join us there, Marianne and Paul decided it was time to make the crossing and came to West...

May 5, 2012 - Epilogue

Friday night we had a nice last night dinner with K. & Janet, Ron & Anne, and Beth. We all wanted to go back to Jupiter to Guanabanas again, but after we gave our vehicles to the valet parking guy, found out there was a two-hour wait. So, we walked across the street to the OTHER restaurant there that I love, Schooners. They always have 6 or 8 different kinds of FRESH Florida fish. I was about to order Wahoo, but gave into curiosity and ordered Cobia because I don’t think I had ever had it. It was delicious and I definitely recommend that...

May 4, 2012 - West End to West Palm Beach, Florida

Our trip across the stream was no problem but we rocked a lot because we had a following sea and went slow to save fuel. Finally K. gave in, as he had coming over, and took the speed up to improve the ride. We decided that is was worth an extra $50 each in fuel cost, to get in sooner and not have to put up with the rocking. We tried trolling for awhile. A nice mahi or tuna would have made our day, but it didn’t happen. We did however have the oddest encounter. We were at least 15, maybe 20 miles from the Bahamas, completely out of sight of...

Apr 19, 2012 - Lake Worth Inlet to West End & Great Sale Cay

Finally, after repeatedly checking the weather for 3 days, it looked like Wednesday would provide the weather window we needed to go. We got up at the crack of dawn to leave, wolfed down a bowl of cereal and hit the waterway. Even though the boat cruises at more than 16 knots, we wanted to save fuel, so planned to travel at about 7 knots. That meant we needed 8 hours to travel the 55-60 miles across the Gulf Stream. We made our way down the waterway through Lake Worth, around Peanut Island, and out through the inlet. It turned out to be a...

May 2, 2008 - We are in West End Grand Bahama Island

Hi all! April 30. In Great Sale we met Gail and Larry on TROPICAL GALE WINDS. They were in Marathon last year and were also in Marathon this year but we didn't see them this year while we were there. But here at a desolate island in the middle of bloody nowhere they were found! We had a good time catching up on what's been happening for the past year and we are planning to head out together to cross the gulf stream. KALINA Benoit, Kelly-Ann and baby Mathias followed us to Great Sale from Green Turtle Cay. They took the south route and ran...

Feb 27, 2007 - Manchester to Freeport

Feb 27th Manchester to Freeport. The flight to Chicago was at 10.30 am, so it was necessary to leave the house at 7 am for the two hour check in and time to return the hire car. We hit the traffic jams as soon as we got on the M6. It took about forty five minutes to do a fifteen minute journey, but eventually the road cleared and we managed to make some progress. From the M6 we linked up with the M56 which goes all the way to Manchester airport. At check in time , 8.30, we were five miles away when we hit the second traffic jam. Twenty...

Feb 23, 2007 - BAHAMAS

2/7/07 BAHAMA'S - WE ARE HERE We made it on our last day. We said that if we did not make it today, we'd start heading north. Seas were fair, with Miss L bouncing somewhat, but we decided we wanted to come too much & waited too long to come. We headed south - after leaving the Lake Worth Inlet - for several miles before entering the Gulf Stream, & let it carry us at 3 knots extra & then drifted north for several hours before coming out on the other side of the stream. 3 more hours outside the stream we bee-line to West End, Grand Bahama...
