Feb 19, 2014 - Phillip Island

19/02 – Phillip Island today stopped in at San Remo first, then over to bridge to the I centre. Another chocolate factory, then down to Phillip Island Grand Prix Circuit, I couldn’t get Denton out of there, there was a huge Scalectric track, go carts and a museum. We took the walk to view the track as they were making preparations for one of the rounds of the world champion Super Bikes. Finally moved onto Cowes for lunch and then a walk through their wetland area. When we got back at camp there was a huge storm brewing with thunder and...

Feb 4, 2013 - Phillip Island

We left our free camp and headed through Geelong to Queenscliffe to catch the vehicle ferry across to Sorrento, we got there about 15 minutes to late to go on the early morning special which would of saved us about $50, too bad so sad !! Anyway got the ferry and across we went, it is about a 40 minute ride and very pleasant. As I said in my other journals we had been told about some nice sort of free camps along the foreshore from Sorrento for about 10kms, the area looked really nice and it is on the water edge all the way along, but to say...

Sep 3, 2011 - Penguin Parade!!!!!!!!!!

We all went on a bit of a road trip today!! It was off to phillip island to see the Little Penguins! When we arrived we went to the beach to chill out for a wee bit and have lunch - then we headed into town to do a little bit of shopping! and yes it was definitely penguin related shopping hehe. We then headed to the visitor centre to buy our tickets and have a look round - got to see our first glimpse of a Little Penguin on her nest in one of the man made burrows! They are tiny only 33 cm tall! We then headed down the board walk to the...

Jun 14, 2011 - Phillip Island - June 10-15

Well, here we are on Phillip Island, heading off to the East in the morning. We have had a wonderful few days here - the weather could not have been kinder to us - gorgeous blue skies and sunshine (though have to admit the air is COLD!!). The Island is a lot bigger than we expected with distinct townships scattered around. We have spent quite a bit of time exploring, and bought a 3 Attractions Pass which gave us entry to 1:Churchill Island [a working Heritage Farm with the most stunning views out over Western Port Bay], which is reached by...

Nov 4, 2010 - Philip Island

4th November Philip island He must hae said 50 because on this drie we were just spotting them in the trees. We stopped a few times to see a baby crawling over it's mam and a one one a realy low branch near the roadside but there were loads. We counted 45. My favourite Koala fact is that they have White bums for camouflage as when you look up at them in a tree you just think you saw a cloud. Aww. We raced around the cliff edge roads of the great ocean road stopping for a peek at a waterfall and Torquays famous surfin beach and reached...

Oct 12, 2010 - Phillip Island and the Little Penguins

We had been listening to the weather forecasts as we traveled and as they were predicting some pretty heavy weather on the way we decided to hit Phillip Island a day early. This would give us a chance to get set up and put the annexe up before the rain hit. We hadn’t set our annexe up for about 9 months so it took a little bit of time as we tried to remember how it all fitted together. We had also had some renovations done to it while we were in Queensland so it was good to finally see if our ideas had worked. Once it was all up we went for...

Aug 28, 2010 - Phillip Island and nearly the end of our trip.

Hello for the last time on this blog, We ended up taking a battering at Lakes Entrance, which started about midnight, so decision made to leave and drive through the wind. We planned to go to Traralgon, stay the night and then go to Walhalla to have a look and catch up with Thomas. The weather in Traralgon was freezing and blowing a gale. We stopped for lunch and hated the place. The 3 caravan parks were way out of town on top of a hill so way to windy. We checked out the caravan park at Morwell and that is amongst the power stations and...

Oct 21, 2009 - The world's smallest penguins

Last night we witnessed the homecoming of the worlds smallest penguins. Today we spent time visiting the rest of Phillips Islands. We spent a couple hours this morning at the Nobbies, picturesque rocks out in the ocean that serves as homes for seals and an incredible amount of seagulls. We also viewed Cape Woolamai from afar.

On Thursday we checked out of our cabing and our exploration of Phillip Island continued. We started off at the Koala Conservation Center. Then headed back to San Remo to feed the Pelicans. Then we went BACK to the Chocolate Factory . And finished up checking out the animals at Churchill Island where Haley got hands on experience at milking the cow.. Zach was excited to meet the horse. I think the horse was excited to meet Zach too! All in all, everyone had a great time!...

Jul 8, 2009 - A Maze N Things

Given that we were staying at the A Maze N Things Holiday Park, we decided to let the kids burn off some steam at the actual A Maze N Things Attraction. A fun time was had by all. Haley's favorite hole on the mini-golf course was #2. She showed many groups of kids how the ball went up and around the wheel. Use of the actual golf-club was not necessary apparently. Entry to the actual "maze" was via a Mystery Spot kind of set-up. Very disorienting! In the afternoon, we went down to The Nobbies where the kids got to see a Fairy Penguin...

Jul 7, 2009 - Penguin Parade

A beautifully sunny Tuesday saw us head off down to Phillip Island to see the Penguin Parade. Sorry, no photography allowed, but there was a full moon rising directly behind where the penguins came in to make for excellent viewing conditions. Then the kids got to look at the penguins up close and personal from the safety (for the penguins) of the boardwalk.
