Happy Australia Day! Today marks 12 months since I finished work- how time does fly! We had another (and last for the time being) luncheon outing again today. This time I met up with another of my nursing training friends, Maree (Scotty) and her husband Graham at their house in Blackburn South. We had a lovely lunch of lamb chops on the Barby with salads and had an enjoyable afternoon out on their deck. We were home by about 6pm after getting a few groceries and filling up with petrol in readiness for getting back on the road tomorrow. The...

Another luncheon outing today - this time to Aunty Ruth and Uncle Barry’s at Red Hill South on the Mornington Peninsula. My cousin Alison also arrived for lunch, so it was really lovely to catch up with them all. It had so happened that when I had rung Aunty Ruth to organise our visit over the weekend, another cousin, Judy and her husband Chris, were visiting her then, so I was able to have a short chat to Judy on the phone. So, in all, I’ve had a good chance to catch up with quite a few of my extended family whilst on this visit to...

Today’s outing was to visit my friend Kaylene and her husband Duncan (who live in the suburb of Chirnside Park), for lunch. I went to Sunday school, played netball and went all through primary and high school with Kaylene until mum and dad moved from Melbourne to Camperdown. I even lived with her family to finish the school year the year mum and dad moved, so I have pretty well known her my whole life. Anyway, needless to say, we had a really enjoyable lunch catching up with each other’s news before we headed back to Geoff’s for another...

Ian and I were left to our own devices today as everyone had headed off to work. Ian had a couple of trips into Bunnings so that he could undertake a couple of minor repairs to the van whilst I finished reading a book I had started on Saturday. After lunch, I drove to Fountain Gate (a huge Westfield shopping centre not far from Pakenham) and bought a few bits and pieces that I had on my shopping list, such as new sunglasses and yet another pair of thongs! After doing my best to get lost in Fountain Gate, I headed home to prepare tea (I had...

It was a bit hard to get out of bed this morning after our late night, but once we all finally roused ourselves, Geoff, Di, Ian, myself and the dogs, went for a drive to a lake in the next suburb of Officer. We walked the dogs about ¾ the way around the lake before stopping for some coffee and cake. After finishing the rest of the walk, we drove back to Geoff and Di’s for a lazy Sunday afternoon. We finished the day off with a BBQ dinner, then Ian and I went back to the van to watch some tennis and relatively early night to bed, leaving...

Ian and Geoff went off first thing looking to buy a new fishing rod for Ian as well as some clothes suitable for him to enter the members stand at the MCG later in the day. Di went off to do some shopping and I pottered around getting myself organised for the day. When Di returned home, she drove me to Pakenham railway station where I caught a train around midday to take me into Flinders St. I had organised to meet Anne (another of my nursing training friends) outside the clocks on corner of Flinders and Swanson St. This was the very spot...

This morning was quite wet and miserable, so it was a perfect morning to go and get my hair cut and coloured - which by the way was well overdue! I had booked into the hairdresser Di goes to and was there for my appointment at 10.15am. It was quite nice to have some ‘me’ time for a couple of hours! From there I drove across the road to Woolies to get a few groceries, then back to Geoff’s for a generally quiet afternoon and more catch up with Geoff and Di as well as spending some time glued to the TV watching reports regarding the horror...

Jan 19, 2017 - Aysons Reserve (Rochester) to Pakenham

We had packed up camp and were on the road by our usual 10am. It was a beautiful day for driving so we decided to take the scenic route to my brother Geoff’s place in Pakenham rather than via freeways and through Melbourne. This route took us via Shepparton, Seymour, Yea and Healesville. The countryside changed from flat farming land as from about Seymour to winding hills as we skirted around the Great Divide near Yea and then into heavily forested hills through the Yarra Valley and towards Healesville. We stopped for a quick lunch just...
