Oct 12, 2017 - Melbourne to Mildura

The 3 hour wait for the Mildura plane was about the slowest 3 hours I’ve spent for a long time but it eventually passed & we got to Mildura at 1:30pm, a few minutes early. During the flight, they’d ordered a taxi for me which was waiting so I was home in no time. Everything is good at home & they had some nice rain last night so the ground is soft for me to pull the weeds in the little back garden. I hooked up the battery on the car & it started without a problem so I called the cattery & went to get Alexander, stopping to pick up a few...

Oct 6, 2017 - Mildura

Friday 6 October 2017 Didn't have to get up early today, so enjoyed a lazy start to the day. Decided to head to Wentworth for a drive to check out where the Murray and Darling meet. It is a lovely spot, but we didn't stay too long, nearly froze when we got out of the car! Was just the breeze that was cool, and it has settled down into a lovely day. The garden area at the river junction is unique, and hope the photo shows it well. They have set the garden area up to make it look like two houses, actually using the roofs of two homes across...

Oct 5, 2017 - Mildura

Thursday 5 October 2017 A very warm night in Mildura. Thought we might have been in for a noisy night, but all turned out well. Up early to be ready for pickup at 8am for our tour into Mungo National Park. Trevor arrived as planned just before 8am and we ended up with only two other passengers, Sue from Daylesford and Dorothy from the UK. Sue & Dorothy are long standing friends from their university days, so are enjoying a catchup while Dorothy is out here visiting her daughter. A very comfortable day with only four passengers. Pleased we...

Oct 4, 2017 - Swan Hill to Mildura

Wednesday 4 October 2017 The laser light show lived up to expectations and then more! Enjoyed an excellent night and a full house of tourists. Another mild night and a hot day today as we travelled to Mildura. On the road just after 8.30 am and found a nice spot on the river at Robinvale. Had the company of a duck family with 12 chicks. A lovely spot on the river, and beside a very nice caravan park. Continued on to Mildura, checked in, setup and had lunch before heading out for a look around. Decided to have a look at Red Cliffs, and found...

May 31, 2017 - Mildura/Buronga

Mildura The first European explorer to arrive was Capt. Charles Sturt in the 1830's. He found the headwaters of the river he called the Darling. Later he found another river he called the Murray. While navigating this river he found what he believed to be the confluence of the two rivers. After Capt. Sturt's discovery, settlers moved in to graze sheep and cattle. Once boats arrived in 1853, the regional town of Wentworth became a commerce center of the outback. The settlement of Mildura was founded in 1887, after Americans George and...

Nov 22, 2016 - Mildura on the mighty Murray

What a lovely area this is. Because of the heavy rains over the winter months, the Mighty Murray-Darling system is in flood. Wonderful to see, though we lost quite a few of the usual sightseeing spots, as they are underwater!! Spent half a day out in the Wentworth area, just over the border in NSW. The old Gaol was an interesting stop. They use that spelling of the word, as that is how it was spelt back when it was open. We spent a couple of lovely hours on the Paddle Steamer Melbourne seeing some of the more severe flooding of caravan...

Oct 13, 2016 - Heading home ...first stop Mildura

Packed up and headed on home. Decided to go to Mildura first and book a tour of the Mungo National Park on Friday if we could. We have a tour for tomorrow. We stopped off at Waikerie for lunch - nice little town on the Murray River before a quick scenic drive through and quick stop off at Bremera (we all remember the lake here on our ""Around Australia trip". Scenic drive through Renmark centre to see what it offers before heading across the border to Mildura and a return to the caravan park next to the shopping centre (we stayed here last...

Sep 25, 2016 - Coolamon to Mildura

Woke up early again, courtesy of Alexander - he thinks that as soon as it gets light it must be breakfast time. There was some light rain overnight & everything was even muddier than yesterday so I decided to move on, not sure how far I'd get. The road to Narrandera was still closed, a whole section of it has been washed away according to the lady in the newsagents, so I had to make another detour through Wagga. It was absolutely pelting down as I came through Wagga. The Murrumbidgee River is full but nowhere near the bridge. The road from...

Feb 8, 2016 - Wallaroo to Mildura

The last few days have been pretty quiet. We had one perfect day on Saturday but the others have been windy although still quite warm. I went to Port Broughton which was a nice drive but nothing remarkable about the town. I also went to Moonta Bay & Port Hughes which is where we stayed in 2007. I couldn't remember it at all so had a look around just to refresh my memory. We got home about 3:30pm yesterday so plenty of time to unpack, park the van, chat with the neighbours & collect my mail. It was warm in the afternoon but the house was...

Nov 20, 2015 - Mildura to Ballarat

After a very hot day yesterday (42.5ºC) & a warm night, it was quite different to arrive in Ballarat about 3:00pm today to 16ºC & raining. Fortunately, the rain stopped by the time I got to the caravan park & it was easy to set-up for an overnight stay in a drive-thru site. I went over to Lee’s about 4:30 but Jasmine was having an afternoon sleep. She eventually woke up about 5:30 & happily modelled the beautiful little hat my friend Brigitte made for her. I spent the evening with them, fed Jasmine a couple of times then decided I was...

Apr 29, 2015 - Melbourne to Mildura

I just need to finish the story. We had a strong tail-wind most of the way to Melbourne so it ended up being a 7½ hour flight, arriving at Melbourne airport at 6:00am local time (4:00am our time). Business Class was about half-full so I didn’t have anyone next to me. My flight to Mildura left at 8:30 but by the time I’d cleared immigration & customs, made my way to the domestic terminal & checked in again, I'd used up most of the waiting time. My friend Eve Byron was waiting at the airport so I was home about 10:00. My first priority was...

Sep 15, 2014 - Day 2

Sorry I have not been able to write. There was no internet connection. Not much time either! After a couple of hours in the car driving, we stopped at a place called Hay for lunch. In the evening we saw the Murray River and it is the longest river in Australia. We stayed in a cabin in Buronga (NSW) and on the other side of the Murray River was Mildura (Victoria).
