Nov 24, 2015 - Melbourne

Caught the bus which stops right outside the caravan park into the City. It goes along the Eastern Freeway & only takes about 50 minutes which is quite good & gives me an opportunity to look at stuff instead of concentrating on traffic all the time. I walked around the City for a while, looked at the 60th Anniversary Myer Christmas windows, then caught the tram to the Casino. I didn’t stay long because I lost all my money so I had lunch then walked along the riverfront because it was such a beautiful day. It was very clear so I went up to...

Did some planning for the next couple of weeks then saw the movie “The Dressmaker” at Doncaster Shoppingtown. Met Derek & Kim at David’s Master’s baseball game at 6:30. They played until it got dark about 8:00 then we had a drink & pizza after the game.

A bit more settling in then to Derek’s baseball game at 1:00. The caravan park is very conveniently across the road from the baseball field & it was fortunate that Derek's team was playing at home. David was busy coaching but Kim turned up & we chatted through the game which Doncaster lost quite convincingly.

Nov 21, 2015 - St Kilda

After returning the campervan (probably in a better condition than we found it after Phill's tinkering!) we picked up the car and headed for St Kilda. Melbourne looks great and we are looking forward to exploring more next week. St Kilda was very swish with cafes, patisseries and plenty of people watching. Luna Park was a hit with the 100 year old roller coaster particularly fun. We drove back along the coast road to Mt Martha with the sea on one side and the most amazing houses on the other. It looks like foodie heaven here with wineries,...

Our Year Out

Nov 21, 2015 - We're home

We spent our last day in the USA at Disneyland, the happiest place on earth. Unlike all the other days which were rushed we got to take it easy and wander around taking it all in. We still managed one last ride on Splash Mountain (our 5th) and meet some more characters. Gabi loves Fast Pass and thinks we should have fast pass for all things in life where you can get a ticket to something and come back later and not have to queue. As we were leaving the hotel to go to the airport there was in last surprise. We had a limo!!! It was so...

Linton's USA Trip

Nov 19, 2015 - Melbourne

In Melbourne at last. We are in Mount Martha where Jonnie and Lisa have a very cool house. In fact we haven't left it yet as the kids refused to go near the campervan after so much driving. We have relaxed and played games all day and then had a great evening with the Meggitts. Off to explore inland in the camper tomorrow and Saturday -Jonnie and Lisa are coming too- hope they can cope with Bruce.

Our Year Out

Nov 18, 2015 - A Whirl around Melbourne

One day is not near enough to see this wonderful city. There were so many options and so little time, I might have to make the Australian Open a bucket list item so I can see and enjoy more of the parks, the Yarra River and the arts and entertainment that seemed to be abundant. We started our tour in Federation Square, proceeded past the Eureka Tower with the ubiquitous “cube” for standing 80+ stories up with only plexiglass around you, headed for the Melbourne Star Eye (like in London, Las Vegas or Seattle), on to Queen Victoria Market...

Oct 18, 2015 - Mel is Re-Bourne

Arrival to Melbourne was like a return to another time & place after Tasmania; the later so rural step-back-in-time-ness & relaxed full of nature, the former of urban now-ness & energy of motion. Both add their own value to life. Visited the Victoria Parliament Building which was constructed (at least the 1st stage) in a gold-fueled rush; 1851 gold rush. Replete with lavish gold gilt, it seemed, everywhere. The guided tour was very well conducted, though it seemed I asked too many questions, and so was asked a few times whether I was a spy...

Sep 29, 2015 - Mel is born

After our tranquil week's stay in Bermagui and a relaxing 8 hour bus/train journey the hustle bustle of Melbourne was a bit of a culture shock. Crowded terminals and sidewalks of multiple culture people in a hurry, heads down to their 'whatever'-pads. I figured I wasn't in Kansas anymore, Toto. But - in short order the vibrant multiplicity of the city turns you on. Energy, youth (the University sector), movement, variety, LIFE. We stayed in the central city district and with the free tram system in that area, moving around was easy,...

Apr 28, 2015 - Kuala Lumpur to Melbourne

I packed up then checked out of the apartment by 11:30. My flight’s not until 8:15 tonight but there’s an airline Check-in Counter at KL Sentral so I was able to check-in & get rid of my suitcase then I put my carry-on bag into a locker & was free to do some more sightseeing this afternoon. I’d saved several places near KL Sentral, the first one being the Sri Maha Mariamman Temple which is one of the oldest & most elaborate Hindu temples in the country. It was a bit of a challenge to find it but it was amazing. I wish I knew the stories...

Apr 28, 2015 - Melbourne Airport Departure Lounge

All checked in, through Security and Customs - all okay! Sitting waiting to board, and now starting to relax - our holiday has commenced joined by other members of the Choir who also will be spending two days in Brunei. Walking through the Duty Free shopping, just beyond, Kristian heard a pianist on a baby grand, we wander alongside and got a request for New York, New York - so a piano and a tenor singing along - all adds to the variety! I'mm, it's 11.48' supposed to depart 12.15 - boarding is a little late but no worries. Black Rock Travel...
