May 27, 2008 - Melbourne Day 1

When we got off the plane we went to claim our luggage and then took a taxi to our hotel room. We checked in to the hotel (Kingsgate on King St.) and then went outside and started walking around town. Our first stop was the Southern Cross Mall. We walked around looking for some good food and eventually ate in the food court. Scott and Dad had pizza, Sam had Chinese and mom had a sandwich. After we satisfied our hunger, we walked to via the Flagstaff gardens to Queen Victoria’s Market which was like the local farmers market. There were...

Mar 26, 2008 - Oz

Hi guys, sorry about the lack of updates- Miss Gill has had a word with me regarding this and I promise to try and be a better 'blogger' (she's just too keen for my liking) ANYWAY, I am now in Melbourne, and it is 9:49pm and masisvely raining!! We're staying with a girl called Holly here and her family who are lovely, and we've been keeping ourselves busy. Went on a 2 day tour on the Great Ocean Road which was pretty good, got some sunbathing time in and played in the sea, and got to see some landmarks- the 12 Apostles, London Bridge...

Mar 2, 2008 - Adelaide to Melbourne

I have just spent the last 3 days on a guided tour from Adelaide, through the Grampians, along the Great Ocean Road, and into Melbourne. It was an exhuasting but rewarding weekend and I am already struggling to remember all that we did but I'll do my best. Friday, February 29 Our group met before sunrise and piled into the bus with our guide, Jen. As we all settled in for a few more hours of sleep Jen sped us along to Bordertown where we saw white kanagaroos and took cheesy photos at the crossing from South Australia into Victoria then...

Nov 29, 2007 - Day 60 - Fast Forward

Thursday Nov 29th This morning I realized that in exactly three weeks I will be back in San Francisco, that is of course if the current plan plays out. Then I realized that I have taken five flights over nine weeks, and now I will take five more over three weeks...quite a shift. In the next week alone, I will be in Melbourne, Perth and Phuket! So the message I received is that the resting, stationary part of my trip is drawing to a close and the more fluid adventurous part is about to begin. It should be interesting to say the least...

Nov 28, 2007 - Day 59 - Many Streets

Wednesday Nov 28th This was the morning of the hammer. Somebody in the apartment next to me started using a drill and hammer just before 9am and banged away all day until 7pm or so. Somehow I managed to manifest 45 minutes of quiet in the morning to meditate...I'm guessing I had a little help with that one! As soon as I finished meditating, it started up again. Gotta love that. Weather today, 84 with 82% humidity...that would be an 8 on the Koz Whiny scale, though with no one in earshot to whine to, it never happened. ;) I decided to make...

Nov 24, 2007 - Day 55 - And The Winner Is...

Saturday Nov 24th Today was a scheduled workout day for my upper body, and I made it to the gym for a good workout. After that, I grocery shopped and then stopped at a local video rental shop and picked up five movies for the week for only $12. I'm still feeling very internal and am spending a lot of time relaxing, so I figured why not enjoy some entertainment as well. So the big story of the day is Australia's general election. Their system, like most of the world, is different from ours as far as I can tell. Each party picks a candidate...

Nov 23, 2007 - Day 54 - Tuned In

Friday Nov 24th This morning I got pretty and headed over to the Melbourne MindBodySpirit Festival as planned. It was being held at the Melbourne Convention Center , designed with all kinds of interesting angles and geometric shapes inside. That line of people waiting to go in door #1 is where I ended up waiting until they were ready to open. I didn't take any photos inside because it didn't feel comfortable, and I didn't want to be flashing in people's faces. The first thing I did was head to a seminar held by Jason MacDonald, billed as...

Nov 21, 2007 - Day 52 - Whoop, There It Is

Wednesday Nov 21 Ah, the blessed rain finally arrived. Today it was 54 with a steady rain all day long. Yes, a 40 degree drop from yesterday..maybe this really is the Midwest! Exercise-wise, this was a scheduled day off, and the body is doing okay after my leg workout yesterday. I may fire up my pilates DVD in my computer later before bed and give that a go for an hour, you know, since I hauled it all this way ;) I spent most of the day listening to the rain, relaxing, meditating, sleeping and working on my journal. My apartment is kind of...

Nov 17, 2007 - Day 48 - Sticky Wicket

Saturday Nov 17 The temperature has been steadily climbing this week all the way up to 90 degrees, and then today it added in high humidity as well....which as many of you know assists me to go from zero to whiny in 3.2 seconds ;) They promised us thunderstorms, and so far it has been about five minutes of rain which as all Floridans know made it twice as humid! LOL Ok, note to self...you don't control the weather, only how you react to it. Note taken. It is spring here, and judging by the sneezing I've been hearing in the streets and in my...

Nov 15, 2007 - Day 46 - Attack of the Americans

Thursday Nov 15th Ok, now I know the effect of doing both those leg exercises in one session! I had to force myself out of bed at 9:30am, about 1 1/2 hours later than normal and still I felt exhausted. I wanted to go swim, and then I remembered that swim sessions I had the day after leg workouts usually petered out after 30 minutes. I decided to wait until tomorrow to make sure I could do my full swim and enjoy it. Besides, the legs were d-e-a-d this morning :) Today I am going to run errands, including returning the voltage converter I...

Nov 14, 2007 - Day 45 - Legs of Steel

Wednesday Nov 14th Today was a gym day, and in the morning I headed over for a leg workout. Now normally I do either squats or leg presses, as I found that doing both heavy lifting exercises in the same workout along with the other six exercises I do would just wear me out. Today, however, I felt strong and did them both. We'll see how that feels tomorrow! I decided to stop on the way to the gym and get my haircut. I had been eyeing this barbershop on Chapel Street that charged just $17 for a haircut. I had stopped by it several times and...
