Jul 20, 2013 - Home Sweet Home!!

Leaving Darwin in the wee hours of Monday morning we travelled well, stopping for breaky in Katherine, fuel at Tennant Creek and camping around 100ks south of Tennant Creek. It was a long day in the car, over 1000kms, and we didn't pull into camp until after dark. The kids were absolutely amazing!! We kept waiting for them to start playing up but they didn't! Must have been picking up on our excitement to be heading home to friends and family. We noticed the drop in tempreture straight away and it was much harder getting out of bed at...

Apr 28, 2012 - Almost Ready

10 days until our departure date! Dylan has had his operation and is spending our last preparation days on the couch! That leaves all the jobs to me and I seem to be busy enough just with the general housework! So it is hard to see at this stage that we will ever be ready to leave! Mum keeps reminding me that we are not going away to a deserted island, there will be shops, and I dont need to worry so much about forgeting things. A helpful reminder! Anna is now 6 months old, 9kgs and almost sitting on her own. We will be able to put her car...

Apr 6, 2012 - First and final practise camp at Angusvale

With 5 weeks until the big trip and time fading quickly we decide to pack up and go for a practise bush camp at Angusvale. We spent a day and a half packing the van as if we were leaving on our big trip and were surprised at how much we could fit in and how much spare space there still is. Dylan noticed the difference in the weight of the van when towing. We were very happy with the stone guard, deflecting dust and stone on the way down into Angusvale. The road was quite corrugated so we were able to see how well the can towed on a rougher...

Mar 30, 2012 - Leave date is set!!

Preparations continue and have been cranked up a notch now that a leave date has been set! We are hoping to hit the road on Tuesday 8th May, which leaves less than 6 weeks for us to get organised! Lots to do, still unsure where to start. Hoping it will just all come together in the end! Dylan is booked in to have his hernia operation on April 20th, giving him just over 2 weeks to recover for the big trip. Planning to do a practise camp in the next week or two. We will completely set the van and navara up as if we are leaving for our big...

Mar 14, 2012 - Preparations continue...

Two months on and the preparation continue. We looked at lots of different vans, spoke with lots of travellers (people who were selling vans) who were really happy to share their experiences. We decided on a Windsor Rapid caravan which has a double bed and two children sized bunks. We have spent a few nights in the van with the kids and it all went smoothly so we are looking forward to hitting the road. Dylan was made redundant from the desal last Friday, so all going well we will finalise our plans and make the final preparations and...

Jan 15, 2012 - Preparations begin

We've decided to hit the road and go explore this big beautiful country that we live in and so the preparations begin! Where to start?? Caravan versus Camper Trailer??? It's a hard choice to make, especially when we have never done any sort of camping with the kids. A camper trailer allows you to have more freedom in where you can travel but a caravan provides more luxuries and can be accessed anytime, and there is no need to mention the difference in set up times! So Caravan it is! The Jayco Expanda is our current favourite. We are...
