Jul 21, 2009 - A trip to Ballarat

Today we went for a trip up to Ballarat for the day. It is only an hour from Geelong and we travelled along the Midland Highway through some small towns arriving in time for a lovely lunch at the Beechworth Bakery. Ballarat has lots to do and see, with some very old buildings everywhere. Sovereign Hill is their main attraction, with the Eureka Stockade next on the list. The Gold Rush days brought men in their thousands to discover gold, and then with that came the disputes. We were lucky to have a lovely sunny day with not too much wind...

Jul 20, 2009 - Queenscliff

This morning we spent a short time shopping in the city of Geelong. Then we met up with Sarah to have lunch, before driving down to Queenscliff to have a look around. We had lunch at Queenscliff with everybody yesterday but didn't have time to spend looking at the sites. Queenscliff is the launching spot for the ferry to Sorrento. It is also where there are two lighthouses that are used in conjunction with the lighthouse at Point Lonsdale to help the big ships through the heads of Port Phillip Bay called - 'The Rip'. Jul 19, 2009 - Morning walk at Torquay

Today we had to packup and leave the cottage at Bells Beach and travel to Clifton Springs. We have had a lovely weekend as a family gathering together, learning the news of Shannon and Ben going to have a baby soon, and seeing everybody after our 11 weeks of being outback Australia! We went to the beach at Torquay to soak up the warm winter sun and enjoy the beautiful blue waters as we walked along and Bella the puppy learnt about salt water and other dogs!
