Nov 25, 2018 - Day 2 Bright to Beechworth

Highlights We set off on the 2018 GVBR from Bright towards Myrtleford on the Great Alpine Road. Oak and pine trees unfortunately shaded us from the just riding sun as we rode through tiny towns with weird names like Porepunkah, Smoko and Eurobin. It was flat, except for some undulations along the way to my marshalling point, the first rest stop. The usual busy time there with 2,500 cyclists entering and leaving. But this was made more challenging by various cars and trailers entering the area o go to a speedway meet at the track behind our...

20th October Shepparton to Beechworth… Quite a quick pleasant run today arriving around 11:15 and all set up so lunch was at Noon……. We had dramas with the little Grapefruits phone (no one spotted the deliberate error in the last post I inserted just to make sure you are reading). It would just go black at random so in Shepparton we bought a new one, this is where the problem occurred the new one needs a nano sim so we drove into Telstra to get a new sim and they were really helpful and swapped numbers over and sorted her contacts…. We...

Jul 23, 2013 - Catch-up from Beechworth

Beechworth is a small town of much historic significance, situated in the north-eastern corner of Victoria. It was famous for its major growth during the gold rush days of the mid - 1850s. Many of its historical buildings are well preserved and the town has become a popular tourist destination amidst a growing wine-producing area. M’Home and I were very fortunate to stay a few days of each of several weeks on a 56 acre property six km out of Beechworth called Eagle Ridge. The owner was very much into wildlife and the environment and she had...

13th November Monday we decided to go for a drive to Beechworth. After programming Brandon [GPS] we set out. Taking us down the Hume freeway we travelled for 65 kms arriving in Beechworth we discovered we could have gone through Wodonga and it would have been a much shorter drive. Sometimes we wonder where he gets his information from. We opted to travel the shorter way back. What a lovely town full of history. After a delicious lunch at the Beechworth bakery we strolled around. Enjoying visiting the Historic Courthouse, Telegraph...

Jul 28, 2012 - Me and Ned in Beechworth

We had a day trip around the Albury area and ended up in Beechworth – Ned Kelly country. I went through the Beechworth Courthouse where they were preparing for the Ned Kelly Festival next weekend. I was fortunate enough to meet up with Ned and he agreed to get a photo taken with me, lucky man. I ignored the policeman and didn’t ask him for a photo – mongrel ! (he said he was used to that) And I talked with Ned’s mother Ellen. We also went to the Beechworth Sweet Company and Barry got so excited over the selection of lollies he almost wet...

Jan 3, 2009 - Beechworth

3rd January – Up at 7am as we had an 11am flight to Melbourne to catch. Today’s the day we meet up with my friends, Jenny and Andrew. I met Jenny on a Mark Warner water sports holiday in Turkey many years ago (the boyfriends we went with long since ditched…), and we used to live in Clapham together. Jenny is originally from New Zealand and settled in Melbourne a few years ago with her English husband, Andrew. I had met there 5 year old son, Ben, when he was just a baby, but had never met 17 month old Jack. I wish Australia wasn’t so far...
