We wanted to come to Mt Field National Park to see the Giant Eucalyptus trees (actually they are plants and not trees) and we were not disappointed... They are huge as you can see on the pictures!! Our camp groud is just by the forest and the river and in evening we were once again lucky with the wild life. We saw some dingly (not sure how to write the name) and some platypus... I never though I would see platypus in the wild!! they are quite small and they really don't like people so they are very hard to spot! We were lucky to see 3 of...

Oct 6, 2005 - Maydena (04/08/05 - 05/08/05)

This was a spot recommended by our two female stalkers. It came up from conversation about the Styx Forest, one of the old-growth forests that has seen a lot of damage done by clear felling logging activity. It also contains the world's largest Christmas tree: an 80m monster. On the way up, there was an opportunity to stop in Mt. Field National Park. Reputedly Tasmania's most popular NP, it is quite easy to see why ~ lush green pastureland surrounds before hitting the heavily forrested highlands of the park itself. Therein, you will find...
