Nov 30, 2012 - Day 26 ... 'THAT' Bush Camp ...
After leaving Arequipa around 11:30am we headed for the designated pick-up point to collect all those who ventured to Colca Canyon for the Condors ... it is surprising just how comfortable the truck felt with only 5 passengers on board for the 3 hours or so it took to get to the others. When we did eventually pick-up everyone else the general concencus of that group was that the Condors were a little disappointing. When we did it 6 years ago we saw around 15-20 Condors, all up-close-and-personal ... apparently this group only saw 2 - and...Jump to full entry

Nov 20, 2012 - Day 21 ... Huacachina and those Awesome Dunes!
This morning we left Lima for Huacachina, and of course the awsome experience of V8 Dune Buggys and a Desert Camp ... we did this 6 years ago when on tour with Kumuka - back then it was 'included' - this time it was 'optional', which meant it was an extra cost of $55US if you wanted to do it. Having done it before, and knowing what was involved, it was a 'No Brainer' ... Damn Sure I was doing it! The drive day from Lima to Huacachina was reasonably uneventful enough ... not much to write about, so I wont waste time ... the general terrain...Jump to full entry

Nov 19, 2012 - Days 15 - 17 ... on the road to Lima.
So, internet access is not as available as you might like in the regions we have been travelling through so far and consequently this entry is made in 'Catch-Up Mode' (again) ... my apologies for this, but I am trying to stay on top of things ... After a couple of days at the Loki Hostel in Mancora (Northern Peru), we hit the road bound for Lima - the modern Capital of Peru. On the way we had a couple of Bush Camps and a night in the camping grounds of the Naylamp Hostel in Huanchaco ... a little bit rough I guess, but that is why we...Jump to full entry
Nov 19, 2012 - Days 18 - 20 ... Lima, the Capital of Peru!
*** Disclaimer *** This entry may be a little sketchy because I only just stumbled over the problem yesterday … I was uploading some pictures to this entry, and when I went in after the upload to check it out all the text for the entry was gone! … So, this entry is being re-written but it is all in recollected memory now – Lima was 4 countries and a long time ago …. Help! Anyway – here it goes … We arrived into Lima around 4’ish in the afternoon – just in time for Peak Hour Traffic … oh hell, who am I trying to kid? In our experience, there...Jump to full entry
Nov 19, 2012 - THE most anticipated arrival in history!
righty ... this will be a very short entry at this immediate point in time - basically just to record the arrival of Paul! Because I have been travelling with out Paul ... but everyone else on the truck knows of Paul ... and they know that he was held up with Kidney Stones ... it has felt like the most anticipated arrival in the history of travel. If I had 5 cents for everytime someone asked me "how is Paul?" - "when does he get here?" - "are you excited about him getting here?", i'd be able to fund another 6 years of travel! But the time...Jump to full entry
Nov 17, 2012 - 36 hours to go.....................
Well, with less than 12 hours to go before I leave I thought it best I post a message... The stones and stent(s) have all gone...it’s just me now...and I cannot wait to get on the big silver tube tonight to fly me to where I should be...RIGHT next to my Tony... I have been reading his entries and looking at the pics with such mixed emotions... I know Tony is having a fantastic time...well it looks like it...and it’s wonderful to see him over there doing all the things we’ve planned...but I’ve also been saddened that especially in the group...Jump to full entry
Nov 8, 2012 - Days 13 & 14 - Loki Hostal, Mancora
Greetings from sunny Mancora on the northern beaches of Peru! We have 2 Free Full Days here, and the hostal is right on the beach front ... the weather is absolutely FABULOUS - much sun & gentle breezes - just awesome! We were in Mancora 6 years ago and there isn't really all that much to do here ... the Main Strip of Mancora can be easily done in about 10-15 minutes at a stroll, and it seems to be all about the beach here so I don't think I am missing too much by spending most of my days online catching up with the Travel Journal ... a lot...Jump to full entry
Nov 8, 2012 - Day 12 - Cuenca to Mancora
Today was all about transiting from Cuenca in Ecuador to Mancora in Peru ... currency change - border crossing - long drive day ... FUN! As a group we maintained our perfect record so far this trip and were ready to leave a head of time. Pete, Paul & I found a great little German Bakery to get breakfast at - and i think we actually helped them open for the day we were that early - and then all on Frida to roll out of town. There were more mountains to cross enroute to the border crossing - right up into the clouds again, and for a short...Jump to full entry
Nov 8, 2012 - Days 10 & 11 ... Tena to Cuenca
The day we left the jungle was an early start, and a long drive day. We had 2 days to transit from Tena to Cuenca and our camp tonight was to be our first Bush Camp, which essentially means - find somewhere suitable (enough) around dusk, set up camp and stay the night, then pack-up early in the morning and drive again on our way. So, we left reasonably enough on time and hit the long road to Cuenca. Franco was told (apparently) that the road was sealed all the way to Cuenca ... and it was - for most of the way on today's drive anyway ......Jump to full entry
