RUSSANDY 2016

May 7, 2011 - Rolleston cont.

28th April. As Rolleston is such a small town we decided to walk up to the shop, what an eye opener, the couple running the grocery, come hardware store must be well in their eighties........the place was so dirty, I don’t think it had been thoroughly cleaned in years. Without many options I purchased a loaf of bread and one litre of milk which came to $8.90, they sure know how to charge. They do have a captive market, the nearest town is Injune which is 165klms from Rolleston. We walked the full length of the town which took us less than...

Apr 27, 2011 - Rolleston

26th April. Today we moved on to Rolleston........what can one say.....it’s a tiny little settlement in the middle of nowhere. The Rolleston Caravan Park is????? Very, very average. Certainly wouldn’t recommend it to anyone. The owners/managers are friendly which is something, we won’t talk about the amenities.......we have booked until Saturday, my fault I guess I want to see The Wedding on Friday, but if we can’t get the TV reception I will be rather miffed to say the least. We walked up to the garage to see what it was like, boy you...

This was after assurances from the information bureau lady in Emerald that it was “bitumen all the way”. Having little in the way of choices, we decided to risk it and proceeded very gingerly on the dusty, red soiled road. The gravel lasted for some 50km and wasn’t nearly as bad as we had expected, with only a few spots still suffering the effects of the recent floods. On entry into Rolleston,...

Living the Dream

Aug 30, 2010 - Remote Carnarvon Gorge

August 24th Travelled 250kms to remote Carnarvon Gorge, arrived early afternoon at Takarakka campground. Nearest town,Rolleston, is over 100kms away. It only has a petrol station and small convenience store. Last 25km unsealed road. Great campground encircled by the Carnarvon river. Grace spent afternoon with another girl of same age playing 'Guess Who'. Hayden learnt some new tricks on his DSI with some older boys. Again, alot of birdlife. The cheeky, black 'Currawongs' and the assertive kookaburras. They would even dive in under the...
